Manufacturer's Description
Dyson - the cleaner that doesn't lose suction. Others clog. Ours don't
Teh Dyson DC23 vacuum cleaner has Root Cyclone technology. This patented Dyson technology ensures the vacuum cleaner doesn't clog so it doesn't lose suction. Dyson has developed a unique system that does not rely on filters or bags to separate dirt from air. Instead it uses powerful centrifugal force to spin the dirt out of the air, so there's no clogging and no loss of suction.
The DC23 includes the following features:
- Motorised Brush Head - Powerful bristles remove dirt and pet hair from carpets
- Foot Control - Operate the brush control without having to bending down
- Hard Floor Tool - Improved pick-up on hard floors. Long Bristles prevent scratching or marking of wood or delicate flooring
- Life Time HEPA filter - Approved for allergy sufferers - All models carry the British Allergy Foundation seal of approval
- No running costs - lifetime and no bags to buy. Just wash the filter every 6 months
- 5 Year Guarantee - Repeatedly tested for an equivalent 10 years of use to ensure durability with Dyson support on hand 7 days a week
- Tough durable construction - Made from the strongest materials available to withstand bumps and bashes
- Clear bin - Made from tough polycarbonate - the same material used in crash helmets - so it's strong and durable
- Clean exhaust air - Air expelled from a Dyson contains up to 150 times less mould and bacteria than the air you breathe
- On-board tool storage - Tools store securely on the machine so they're always on-hand

The Motorhead Motors
After spending months deciding on a which new vaccum to purchase from the Dyson range I have taken delivery of the Dc23 Motorhead which arrived promptly from Amazon. Once out of the box I found it easy to set up and I quickly tested it on a carpet which I have struggled for years to remove dog hairs from ........ it was spotless in moments! A fantastic purchase well worth the extra price. The only downside I can see is that the suction is so good that my rugs dont stay in place as I vaccum.
Never mind the quality, feel the weight
If you are considering purchasing this item, I would recommend that you first take the time to see it in the flesh, pick it up, and weigh up its use, literally, with the motorhead attached. It does have massive suction, and the motorhead certainly deals very efficiently with hairs and fluff on carpets, so for dog-owners perhaps this is essential kit, but its use for other cleaning jobs is not really as easy as with some other, cheaper models in the Dyson range.
Dyson refer to the plastic item on the end of the flexible hose as a 'wand', a term which totally fails to convey the bulk of the device. This bulk renders use of the standard crevice tool and others quite difficult, and generally detracts from the usefulness of this cleaner for general purposes. With a stated weight of 10.8 kg, you may well find a clean-up also becomes a work-out.
Early Days with the DC23
It is too early to tell whether this will be a long-serving vacuum cleaner. I guess the fact that this is our second Dyson shows we believe it will be though. First impressions then are that it is very powerful model. Much more than our previous Dyson upright (DC07). The motorhead attachment really makes up for the fact that it is a cylinder model. It is easier to use than an upright but with the same level of carpet-capability. Since half our house is hardwood flooring this only needs the lightweight hard floor tool which beats the upright for weight and manoevrability. It is really great on stairs though where the upright's normal cleaning bar will not go. Even with the other tools the pick-up is impressive. It is noisy, it is not the lightest model and you cannot put tools directly on the hose - you need to still have the wand albeit in shortened form.
Our tip for Dysons is to buy a second filter. This part needs cleaning regularly - much more often than the instructions say, in my experience. In our case with a spare one filter is drying after being washed while the other is in service. On a bagged cleaner you effectively change part of the filtering when you replace the bag of course and this system makes up for that difference I think. With our previous model (DC07) we needed to swap them over about once a week or even more often if we were cleaning in areas with very fine dust - like after doing some DIY around plasterwork. The new one (DC23) seems better and might only need swapping every two or four weeks but being able to just drop the replacement in is still a huge plus.
