The 'Ultimate' Classical Crossover List
EdenEden by Sarah Brightman
Buy new: £5.58 / Used from: £2.46
Sarah Brightman is the queen of crossover. Eden is considered her best album to date by many. She has a soft voice one minute - then a huge one the next. You find the haunting 'Deliver Me' on here.
I Believe My HeartI Believe My Heart by Keedie
Buy new: £10.88 / Used from: £4.97
Keedie has an extraordinary voice. She has such passionate delivery, and this is a wonderful eclectic album filled with arias, pop songs and original material.
The Best of Vanessa MaeThe Best of Vanessa Mae
Buy new: £6.98 / Used from: £3.49
Vanessa has come a long way from 'The Violin Player', this 'Best of' has it all including the beautiful 'I'm A Doun'.
PurePure by Hayley Westenra
Buy new: £3.48 / Used from: £1.99
Hayley reached her peak with this album. She has a stunning unique voice - she isn't the most diverse artist and every album seems to be the same, but she really hit the nail with this one.
Living A DreamLiving A Dream by Katherine Jenkins
Buy new: £8.48 / Used from: £4.43
An opera snob's nightmare. There is a lot of room for improvement with Katherine, she is not as good as her peers, but stil deserves her place. She is the whole package, a bit of an all-rounder.
By Your SideBy Your Side by Becky Jane Taylor
Buy new: £10.98 / Used from: £4.00
Becky is hardly known at all within the UK, which is a shame; she started her career at the West End. This is a standout album with very good arrangements and it has a quite original tracklisting.
Beyond ImaginationBeyond Imagination by Operababes
Buy used from: £2.94
An okay album. It has some original and interesting arrangements of our well loved arias.
Amy Nuttall - Best DaysAmy Nuttall - Best Days by Amy Nuttall
Buy new: £10.88 / Used from: £1.57
This is quite good actually. She has a thin operatic voice, but the material, arrangement and charm pulls this album through. I'm sad to see that a follow-up album has not occured.
Russell Watson /Amore MusicaRussell Watson /Amore Musica by Russell Watson
Buy new: £6.48 / Used from: £0.73
Russell's best album in my opinion. It's a lot more personal and heart-felt than the commerical churned previous albums. Some great original material here and has a lovely voice for pop.
AwakeAwake by Josh Groban
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £1.00
His latest offer is my personal favourite, though it's his most poppy one to date. He has a beautiful textured baritone voice, and songs like 'You Are Loved' and 'February Song' are to die for!
Moving OnMoving On by Myleene Klass
Buy used from: £4.99
She's not that great on the piano; adequate, but underwhelming as a classical pianist, but like other albums on this list, the arrangements and atmosphere easily pull this album through.
G4G4 by G4
Buy new: £4.98 / Used from: £0.47
G4's albums have been a hit and miss, and if you are interested, I'd suggest this album as it has an eclectic tracklisting and is quite good. Avoid their third album.
Era 2Era 2 by Era
Buy new: £15.19 / Used from: £5.49
This is one of the best albums I own! A choir with electric/rock guitar. I'd very loosely put them under the crossover category - but french composer Eric Levi is behind this choirs melodies
SiempreSiempre by Il Divo
Buy new: £3.98 / Used from: £0.48
I have not been duped by Il Divo marketing into liking them. I have one of their albums and don't understand the fuss, but they are one of the biggest acts in the genre and deserve their place here.
IzzyIzzy
Buy used from: £19.47
This singer has done the best rendition of 'Un Bel Di', ever!
Masters of Chant / Vol.3Masters of Chant / Vol.3 by Gregorian
Buy new: £18.09
Frank Peterson, the man behind Sarah Brightman and Enigma is behind these. Modern songs given a medieval twist.
EtternaEtterna by Emma Shapplin
Buy new: £11.98 / Used from: £7.46
I've never heard such a crystal clear, beautiful voice. She writes her own material and performs in a classical way with bell like clarity. Diction is superb.
All Good ThingsAll Good Things by Sissel
Buy used from: £5.28
Though poppy, this album is one of Sissel's best. If you haven't heard of her she provided those haunting vocals on the Titanic OST.
In The Hands Of LoveIn The Hands Of Love by Vittorio Grigolo
Buy used from: £1.05
This guy appears to have disappeared, but a beautiful voice nonetheless. Has some beautiful songs on here such as 'Bedshaped' and 'Se Tu Non Sei Lei'. Not a fantastic album, it's just 'okay'.
Aled [Special Edition]Aled [Special Edition] by Aled Jones
Buy new: £3.98 / Used from: £0.99
No classical crossover list could be without good old Aled. This albums wins over his others because of the atmospheric 'Vespera'.
AmoreAmore by Andrea Bocelli
Buy used from: £1.21
Bocelli isn't an artist I enjoy, however he is one of the most popular classical artists of the moment. Buy one of his CDs and try to figure out why.
CantamusCantamus by The Cantamus Girls Choir
Buy new: £10.88 / Used from: £0.01
Cantamus has two recordings. It's vital that you buy both. This one has a more popular feel with covers such as 'Fix You'. Their other recording, 'Aurora', was composed by the genius Sarah Class.
CortesCortes by Cortes
Buy new: £10.78 / Used from: £0.84
A new name for us all. I have seen him live and he is very good, but his debut is a disappointment. Predictable standards with sickly arrangements make this album a miss. Wait for his next CD.
Laced/UnlacedLaced/Unlaced by Emilie Autumn
Buy new: £17.98 / Used from: £17.07
This is slightly different to all the others on the list. She is a bit heavier and crosses classical with rock and industrial with her violin. This album is a must for violin fans.
DefinedDefined by Amici Forever
Buy new: £9.58 / Used from: £0.27
Switched group members more than released albums but that can only make them ever more interesting. Also have a notable arrangement for 'Nella Fantasia'.
