This tutorial takes photographers beyond the quick tips and gimmicky effects of many digital photography books. Author Katrin Eismann -- an internationally acclaimed artist, bestselling author, and gifted educator -- offers high-profile work, including her own, as examples for teaching photographers how to use the digital medium to create, edit, and output images that reflect their true vision.
Co-authored by photographer and teacher Sean Duggan, The Creative Digital Darkroom translates skills, concepts, and nomenclature of the traditional darkroom into digital solutions for photographers who sense that, despite the newness of the technologies at hand, there remains a timeless method for learning and practicing photography the right way. This is not a Photoshop book per se, but it does focus on the photographic aspects of Photoshop, something other books claim to do but rarely have the discipline to accomplish. The Creative Digital Darkroom includes:
- Four sections that cover the black & white darkroom, the color darkroom, creative techniques, and production essentials
- Chapters that begin with a thorough foundation followed by numerous tutorial examples that apply the theory to real-world examples
- Examples and a layout that enables readers to find, understand, and apply the featured techniques quickly and easily
- The authors are both renowned photographers and Photoshop experts

Customer Reviews
Great Photoshop for photographers
I can't recommend this enough. I have had other books - Martin Evening for example, but this one talks photography, art and gives excellent and very clearly laid out alternative ways - a mixture of tried and tested and new, to accomplish non-destructive editing. It is very easy to follow, and does not fall into the trap of many pshp books of trying to impress with clever dick know it all language that you have to decipher. I would say it is suitable for intermediates+, though beginners could manage with patience. Some is CS3 only, though not enough to spoil it me CS2 types like me. A lot of books I read and put aside, this one has me trying things as I go. Instant improvement in my prints. On a par with Real World Camer Raw.
Misleading title
I bought this book because I have read several of Katrin's previous works and collaborations. She is very knowledgeable about her subject and usually gets her points across very well.
I wanted this as I hoped it might help with my need to produce better digital prints but it is aimed solidly at the more global graphic studio artist. With chapters on scanning and other techniques unrelated to one's personal photography, the book simply does not cover the areas I expected. If it covers what you want, then it is to be recommended; otherwise it cannot.
Utterly Brilliant!
I can't recommend this book highly enough. For those of you who have more than dabbled with PS(any version) it is a much welcome guide to a truly artistic use of the program. This is a book for the serious creative and shines light upon some photoshop mysteries like no other. Part of a must-have library for all dedicated Photoshop users.
