Phantastic5
I couldn't wait for this one to come out so I imported it from Japan. I don't read Japanese so I've had a merry old time working out what the heck the different options are, how to equip gear, how to add party members and so on... but it's still a blast.

For anyone who played and loved PSO on the PS2, Gamecube or XBox or anyone who enjoyed Phantasy Star Universe, then this is an absolute must-buy.

Lots of loot, lots of mobs to kill, lots of grinding of the same areas (you either love this or hate it - in which case you won't have liked PSO either) and lots of stats to improve. It's a Diablo-clone at heart but with very pretty third-person graphics and the lovely Sega Phantasy Star sheen - the character design is great, there are lots of different weapons, the sound effects are excellent, the music is very impressive... it's all almost uniformly polished to the highest degree.

I was surprised at the amount of pop-up when roaming around outdoors, but it doesn't affect the gameplay in any way.

It's not particularly hard. I'm flying blind because I can't understand the language - I don't even know if I'm a warrior, hunter or force user (!) but I'm not having much difficulty in getting through the levels.

Very highly recommended. Well done Sega - but why on earth is it taking so long for this game to be localised for the West?

As an aside, this game was a big hit in Japan despite being on the PSP largely because it offers the same sort of multiplayer monster-killing fun that Monster Hunter Freedom offers. MHF is MASSIVE in Japan. Phantasy Star Portable is excellent - I'm really enjoying it - but make no mistake: Monster Hunter Freedom is more polished, prettier, and crucially a much deeper and far more exciting gameplay experience. And the MHF monsters are much, much better. So do go out an pick up Phantasy Star Portable - it's great - but if you like this sort of game and you haven't played MHF or MHF2, then pick them up too, because they're the best games on the PSP system (in my humble opinion) and you're in for a treat!

Some problems, but OK4
I bought a UK version of this game today. I have played it for several hours now and I'm only two missions in. Not because I don't have any skill, but because the game's overrun with dialogue! It's infected the whole game, do yourself a favour and don't talk to any NPCs, if the ringing "confirmation" sound doesn't drive you mad, the dialogue pop-ups certainly will. Sure, I can turn the sound off, but then I won't hear the English voice overs of the main dialogues.

I think I've figured out the problem, this game is too slow paced and story driven for my liking..

Pros: Very good fighting system, hordes of customisable weapons, clothes, armour, effects.. etc.

Cons: The confirmation sound can't be disabled, it will ring in your ears hours later.

Great!5
I have a hacked psp so i found no problem in finding this game on internet USA version. the game play is very much like Monster hunter freedom yet you can create a party to top it off, so instead of just you on your own you have a party. the best thing about the game are so far the graphics, huge array of weapons that can be assigned to slots so that you can chnage weapons throughout the gameplay or even at main menu of the game and customizable characters right from the beginning from eye colour to hair colour, body type and even race!. however i still feel the game gets somewhat boring, you'll find the monsters a breeze to kill when you have a big party and when you're low on HP your party support recovers hp for you lol sound great and all but it means you barely ever die! when going further into the game you'll find the levels to be big and it means constantly running around collecting items or keys to unlock doors which does become rather monotonous! but still im hooked to finish this game and for those who are waiting, this game is a must have if you do ofc like phantasy star!
