The best RPG for the 360!
Yes! It's what all us RPG fans have been looking for...a 'true blue' RPG for consoles. All of you that loved the RPG greats, baldur's gate, neverwinter nights, oblivion, mass effect will love this!
I certainly do...it is an amazing immersive game with fantastic dialogue and voice acting (which i particularly love) You really find yourself getting attached to characters in a way that tugs at my heartstrings and makes them seem like real beings like no other game previously (I have a major crush on Alistair, actually ^^). Play this game at the peril of your social life - it will suck you into its expansive world whether you like it or not. The 6 'origins' idea are fantastic and the way WHO you are in the game makes a significant difference to how NPCs feel/act towards you is wonderful...And each NPC with dialogue options has such a well developed character and backstory they have enough depth to be the main character! Choosing who you are in the game is so free and open ended, you can be as good or bad as you like or anywhere inbetween and I feel this 'free choice' has been executed better than in any game, EVER! (Sorry fable I, II, Oblivion - you've been thrashed) I find the graphics actually quite satisfactory and some of the cutscenes are breathtaking...the kinds of stuff that makes your hair stand up and beautiful sweeping soundtrack.
The actual gameplay (quests, battles, interaction, items etc.) is just ... addictive and so much fun! You get drawn into the story and its so much fun to play that you'll find yourself picking up your controller whenever you can. You get ALOT of bang for your buck with this game with insane amounts of gameplay available and SO much replay with the 3 different classes and races offering a new game experience each time. There's so much I could go on to rant about but I just want to get across: This. Is. An. Amazing. Game.
Just, buy it...seriously. If you like RPGs you HAVE to have it...have to!
...HAVE TO!!!
Great game, but dumbed down for consoles.
Bioware have succeeded again in creating an adventure game that sucks you in with it's fantastic story and awesome characters. I'm a fan of previous Bioware games like Mass Effect and KOTOR, and this plays exactly as KOTOR, so it's safe to say if you liked that game and you don't mind the medieval Lord of the Rings setting, then you'll like this game.
It probably plays a bit to similar to KOTOR for my liking, I feel like I'm playing a game from 8 years ago and graphically it's looks like an 8 year old game. Nothing much as evolved since KOTOR in terms of the battle system and conversation trees, you can have a party of 4 instead of 3 which is disappointing, I was hoping for 6 and you can pause the battle and only queue up 1 move unlike KOTOR's 3. But my biggest gripe is the game seems to have been hobbled compared to the PC version, and I suspect not due to any technical limitations of the consoles but because EA are now involved with Bioware and all us console owners are too dumb apparently to play Dragon Age with full tactics, and so the console game focuses more on Action.
Of course there's tactics in the game, way more than in KOTOR, but I feel I'm missing out on certain things like being able to ambush enemies and set traps, PC owners can zoom out and see enemies in the next rooms thus set traps. But with the console version you only see the enemies as soon as they are on top of you practically. But the biggest and most frustrating thing is not being able to position your party members, this is possible on the PC but on consoles; you can't do it, you can wrestle with the tactics system and hold commands to emulate this but in the end it's not worth it.
Not being able to position characters makes it very difficult to perform actions like backstab or flank enemies for critical hits, your party will tend to just bunch up together or be surrounded my enemies and you'll have to navigate to each one and move them manually (LIKE IN SOME DUMBED DOWN ACTION GAME) behind enemies or out of danger in real time (thus leaving the rest of your party to fend for themselves and hope they don't get into trouble) also with the bunched up enemies and characters it's difficult to see the circle status below enemies and your party. PC owners can zoom the camera out, get a great overview of the battlefield, position party members at the click of a button and not only that, pause the battle while doing so for each character, and because they are zoomed out they can see critical information about their party and enemies in their circle status which really is useless on consoles.
We're paying more than PC owners for a game which uses an out of date game engine and has been dumbed down on purpose. Get it if you're a fan, just don't play it on your mates PC cos you'll feel slightly let down by EA.
Should have a warning for non-HD owners
I've only just got the game and not played it much, but as far as I'm concerned it has one glaring flaw. Some of the text heavy elements (for instance quest descriptions) are unreadable on a standard definition television.
The game itself seems like it will be another great Bioware adventure, but like I said I've hardly got going yet.
