Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Michael Jackson's Greatest Hits Vol 1 is in fact the first disc from his previous greatest-hits collection, HIStory: Past Present & Future, which was half compilation, half new material. Despite missing a few okay songs that were included on the latter half of HIStory, none of the newer songs came anywhere near the magic of Off the Wall, Thriller, Bad or (to a lesser extent) Dangerous from which this album is made up. Starting off with the legendary groove of "Billie Jean", Michael shows exactly how he earned his reputation as the "King of Pop" for there are no album fillers on this 15-track CD. What's more, there are so many not included, as there simply isn't room to condense his very best work onto one single album. Guests include Sir Paul McCartney ("The Girl is Mine"), rock hero Eddie Van Halen ("Beat It") and top producers Quincy Jones and Teddy Riley--great songs, great performers, great moments in pop history when Michael Jackson truly was Invincible.--David Trueman

CD Description
'Greatest Hits Vol.1' gathers together the most popular singles for Epic Records between 1979 and 1992 by the multi-million record selling artist, Michael Jackson. This period of Jackson's career included the release of 'Thriller' (1982) which is the world's biggest selling album. Each track featured here were UK top ten hits, barring the 1988 single, 'Man In The Mirror' which reached no.21.

A collection of some of the most sublime pop music ever...5
I must say that rock is my usual cup of tea when it comes to listening to music, but I have always made noble exceptions for what I call 'quality pop' artists, namely Prince, Madonna, but most of all Michael Jackson. The songs on here are some of the finest pop songs ever written. The only song here that is not essential listening is the Paul McCartney duet, 'The Girl is Mine'; while not a bad song, it is verging on the twee side of things.
Featuring furious dance-pop ('Billie Jean', 'Bad' and 'Wanna Be Startin Something'), sweet balladry ('I Just Can't Stop Loving You' and 'She's Out of My Life'), disco-pop ('Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough' and 'Rock With You'), r'n'b ('Remember The Time'), upbeat pop ('The Way You Make Me Feel'), guitar-heavy numbers ('Black or White' and 'Beat It'), socially-conscious songs ('Heal the World' and the wonderful 'Man in the Mirror'), and, of course, the epic 'Thriller'.
I give it 5 stars, yet it still misses out so many classic Jacko tracks ('Smooth Criminal', 'Another Part of Me', 'Human Nature', 'Give in to Me' etc.).
A truly one-in-a-million artist.

A classic buy, you won't stop playing this for ages!!!5
I bought this album knowing that i was familiar with MJ's music and as I browsed through the track listings i couldnt help but to buy it immediately. As soon as you start listening to the CD you are immediately brought into familiar territory with the smash hit "Billie Jean", a quite classic blend of catchy music with fun and intelligent lyrics. Also the musical diversity hits you straight away over the course of the album. Everything from rock, dance pop, disco, rn'b aswell as soulful ballads. Also the whole thing ends on a very poignant note with "Heal the World". All in all a must for even the least dedicated of Jackson fans!!!!

just history repeated3
As a michael fan i own all of his records and then some. however i wouldn't suggest to really buy this album and i haven't either. It's just the first cd of his huge history album. My advice would be to buy that instead, because you not only get all of the songs on this album but it comes with an album of (what was) new material, and in my opinion is a lot better value.

However if the only songs of michaels are the ones on this album that you like then buy this. but value for money history is better
