Manufacturer's Description
The HD2626 is a durable high quality stainless steel toaster, which ensures excellent toast (quick, crispy and equally browned). The durability refers to the material, the lifetime of the appliance and the level of quality testing insisted on by Philips. Other high quality elements are the soft touch buttons, the smooth sliding lever and the clicking thermostat knob. The toast slots are capable of fitting all types and sizes of bread. This toaster also has a built in warming rack to extend its use, you can warm up croissants and rolls in a few minutes.
Customer Reviews
Designed By Monkeys
I bought this on the strength of a couple of 5* reviews for the gloss version of this toaster as well of my trust for the Philips brand. Out of the box the toaster seems well made and has nice feeling controls with a smooth slide mechanism and detented timer control.
However, there is major design flaw that turns what would have been a 5* review into a 1*. Normal sized bread such as Warburtons 'Toastie' etc doesn't actually fit into the slot, meaning the top 20mm or so doesnt get toasted. If the slots were a little bit wider the slice would have fitted in side-ways as they did in my previous toaster.
On the bright side, the toast produced is good on the parts of the bread that fit.
Dont buy this toaster unless you only toast small bread!
UPDATE: It gets worse I'm afraid. The design has raised plastic around the top that makes an excellent crumb trap and makes the toaster very difficult to clean. I'm going to ditch this toaster and buy one designed for the job. I would give it zero stars if I could. I will think very carefully before buying this brand again too. If they cant manage a toaster I am not going to trust them with anything more complex.
Lasted 19 months!
I have found this toaster to be fine for all my toasting needs. The clever touch of having a built in 'bun warmer' is handy if you don't want to have an extra piece to remove and replace cluttering up your kitchen. It is well built and easy to use with every function you should need.
Although having recently bought some Warburtons 'Toastie' bread I have also found that the top of the slice pokes up and about a cm doesn't get properly toasted but in hindsight I do think this bread is larger than average! The top is a bit of a crumb trap and after 19 months the lever will not hold the bread down and there are awkward nuts on the bottom which none of my tools fit so will be buying a replacement.
disapointing
only toasts small pieces of bread which come out of the toaster burnt around the edge and white in the middle, we are buying another different toaster and are throwing this one away.We have only had it for 6 months
