Product Description

minute taking is an important yet under-rated part of business management meetings, critical at all levels of committee. participants rely on them for information they may have missed, those who could not attend can see what was decided in their absence, and the action points act as a timely reminder.

taking minutes of meetings explains the functions of minutes, the different styles, how to take them accurately and how to listen and summarise. now in its second edition this practical guide includes a new chapter on the requirements of the freedom of information act.

reliable, accessible advice is given on important topics such as:

setting up a meeting;

sections of a meeting;

the agenda;

personal preparation;

taking notes;

the minutes;

recording decisions and actions.

From the Author
I lead up to three courses on minute-taking a week, all around the UK. Almost without exception delegates use the words 'hate' and 'minutes' in the same sentence and this was the inspiration for this book.

Many people complained of being 'dropped in the deep end' with minutes and struggled with conflicting advice as to what was correct or required. These days minutes take on many styles and the minute-taker has to be flexible. I wrote the book with this in mind, aiming for practical advice within the constraints of the common expectations of minutes.

I hope you find it helpful and I wish you every success with your minutes.

Fantastic Step-By-Step Guide5
I have a new job where I am required to take minutes of meetings. I've never taken minutes before in my life. I bought this book in my hour of need. It is fantastic! It takes you through the process step-by-step offering advice in plain English.

I have taken a few meetings now and everyone is shocked at my ability - they all think I've been minuting for years!

Highly recommended!

Great value for money5
Saved a fortune with this easy step by step guides. Local training centre was offering tuition at high cost.

A practical, easy-to-use resource for minute-taking4
The unsung hero of any corporate meeting is the minute-taker, quietly and diligently recording the decisions, big and small, that fuel the engines of business. Minute-taking is not simply the process of scribbling notes on a pad. A skilled minute-taker distills lengthy discussions down to their essential messages, and creates order and harmony from the often discordant process of reaching a consensus. Office communication consultant Joanna Gutmann carefully explains every aspect of the process, from setting up the meeting and distributing the agenda to taking notes and formatting the minutes. You will encounter quite a bit of redundancy if you read the book cover-to-cover, but we believe you will find it to be an indispensable reference if you are assigned to take the minutes.
