Product Description

Charlie and Lola, first seen in I Will Not Ever NEVER Eat a Tomato, are set to be stars of the screen and page. A major animation acquisition for the BBC and first airing on prime time children’s TV in October 2005, Charlie and Lola are set for superstardom! Beetles, Bugs and Butterflies is Lola’s absolute favourite book ever in the whole wide world. So naturally she is distraught when it’s not at the library. Someone else has borrowed it! Charlie tries everything he can think of to placate her but nothing is ever going to beat Beetles, Bugs and Butterflies. That is, until Charlie finds Chimps and Chimpanzees and then Lola has a new best book ever!

Customer Reviews

Disappointed - not quite the real thing1
We love Charlie and Lola. Admire Lauren Child. However, this book is plodding, worthy and completely lacking in the leaps of childlike thinking that make Charlie and Lola such great characters. This is compared to, say, "I will not ever, never eat a Tomato". I looked at the small print as I could not believe the difference. On my copy, neither the story nor the illustrations are actually credited to Lauren Child. It seems to be a hammed together spinnoff book from the success of the TV series. I felt something not very far off having been swizzed. A shame as the "real" books are so brilliant.

Perhaps someone from the publishers would care to comment.

If someone could help tell which were "originals" and which were "spin-offs" it would encourage me to buy more, but currently I am wary and disappointed.

Made for TV - not the real thing1
We (me, husband and 2 kids, aged 2 & 6) all love I Will Never Not Ever Eat a Tomato, I Am Not Sleepy and I Will Not Go to Bed and I Am Too Absolutely Small for School. I bought this new TV-spin off book the other day and it is a v poor impersonation of these original books. It's so repetitive that I genuinely thought they had reprinted one of the pages by accident. The stickers are nice, and my 2 year old probably doesn't notice the shabbiness of the tale but I certainly won't be reading it to her very often. This is one of a whole suite of new books following on from the TV show, and I shall now not bother buying any of the rest - just stick to the original C&L books above, or try Lauren Child's other childrens books which are also lovely and imaginative - eg That Pesky Rat.

We Honestly can look after your dog2
This is not as good as the rest of the Charlie and Lola books. Although it says that it was written by Lauren Child the flyleaf states that the text was compiled from a script for the TV show and doesn't list Lauren Child as the author at all. The Charlie and Lola books are great - but watch out for the TV spin off's - they lack the flow and the feel of the "real" books.
