Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
"Virginia Plain", "Street Life", "Love Is The Drug", "Avalon"--they are all here on this splendid, all-encompassing greatest hits package. As on the other Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music hits compilation, Street Life, the early years of Brian Eno period Roxy Music are largely overlooked in favour of Ferry's later, less avant-garde fare, from the extraordinarily camp "A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall" to the chirpy "Let's Stick Together". Throughout, it's hard to resist the potent combination of Ferry's vampiric croon and Roxy Music's art school chic. A sexy and exciting ride through some of the finest pop moments of the 1970s and 80s. --Amber Cowan

CD Description
Almost since the first Roxy Music album in 1973, frontman Bryan Ferry had had a concurrent solo career that morphed from almost campy lounge into ultimately-suave decadence--whilethe band arrived there after starting as glam-rockers. Shortly after these two evolutions met, Roxy Music disbanded andFerry continued on. Heavily skewed toward this later periodin Ferry's career, MORE THAN THIS examines the highly polished, slick sophistication that he perfected on the AVALON album.
The band's brilliant first single "Virginia Plain", the frankly rather wacky version of Dylan's "A Hard Rains a-Gonna Fall", and the solid grooves of the story-song "Love Is the Drug" are all from the early years, but the focus hereis really on the diamond-hard, funky jazz-rock that became the Ferry's true forte--tracks like "Dance Away" and "Angel Eyes". Though the two songs from AVALON--"More Than This" and the title track--included here eclipse most of Ferry's other work, "Slave to Love", "Oh Yeah", and "Same Old Scene" are all certifiable masterpieces. After AVALON, Ferry's solo recordings, including "Kiss and Tell" (from BETE NOIRE) and his cover version of "I'm in the Mood for Love" (from AS TIMEGOES BY), have successfully refined ideas from those tracks.

"Not just Suave & Sophisticated Album from Bryan Ferry & Roxy Music but a good Anthology of their very best hits!"5
I bought this as my first Roxy Music CD in 1995 and which I think is a sort of anthology of Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry including many of their singles. I have always viewed Roxy Music as an innovative band and have been drawn to their music ever since I heard 'dance away' for me is a sort of funky-pop type track that came popular around the same time as songs like `Night Fever' in the late 70s era. However, top five favourite tracks from this Album are: "More than this", "Same old scene", "Avalon", "Jealous guy", & "Oh yeah". There other tracks, I could add as additional favourites as well. Overall, this compilation has very good variety of Bryan Ferry & Roxy Music track(s) like "Street Life" which is more rock than pop and the fast pop early hit "Virginia Plain". Obviously, the classic platters track "Smoke gets in your eyes" is a timeless track. For hard-core fans, this may not be the very best Album but it is good start to find out what Bryan Ferry & his Roxy Music band are about after scratching the surface of their image of being "suave & sophisticated' artist and his band.

NEW DIMENSIONS IN ROCK5
Roxy Music was very innovative for their time and their sound progressed with every album. In particular, they used the synthesizer in a new way to create compelling textures in their fresh take on art rock. Much variety is displayed here in great rockers like Street Life and the frenzied pop of their first major hit Virginia Plain. There is also the majestic buzz of Love Is The Drug and the slick croon of Dance Away and More Than This, another take on plastic soul? Avalon impresses with its mature lyricism while their interpretation of the classic Smoke Gets In Your Eyes has stood the test of time very well. But my favourite is Ferry's bizarre version of Bob Dylan's A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall, a truly amazing tour de force of hypnotic beats and weird vocals giving the song a complete make-over. This is a truly outstanding collection of songs and though it may not please all the hardcore fans, it provides the cream of Roxy and Ferry's hit singles, making it the perfect anthology for exploring the man and the band.

"More Than This...." - There will never be a song like this!5
Some years back by accident I was introduced to this Great Band - "Roxy Music". Its True, they have their own style of music unique to them! Immediately I loved their style of music and bought this and many of its albums. This album features a collection of the BEST tracks from Roxy music and of Bryan Ferry. MY favourtie is More than this! Roxy music dates back to about 20 years, one aspect i like about their music is the introduction of the sax in some songs and the organ,it goes realy well with Bryans vocals. Brillianty compiled into one of the best albums of Roxy Music! Even if you like other types of music, listen to this will open you to another level of music. A must have and must listen.
