Manufacturer's Description
Brave is a 3rd person action adventure that sees you take control of Brave, a young Native American in search of Spirit Dancer, his father and also the greatest Shaman who ever lived. Brave's journey commences when his village comes under attack from the evil Wendigo, who uses his shamanic powers against Brave's tribe.
Along Brave's journey he will encounter many enemies, enemies such as giant bees, wolves, grizzly bears, paint beetles, rock goblins, and cliff ogres. One of Brave's toughest opponents are the Fallen warriors, powerful skeletal warriors who act under the bidding of the Wendigo, they always attack in groups and carry deadly weapons, even the loss of limbs won't deter these from continuing their attack.
Brave will gain a great deal of help from the creatures inhabiting his world, creatures well experienced in surviving the treacherous lands. Brave learns the ancient art of mimicry, allowing him to attract and lure the animals of the forest to help him on his quest. If Brave can learn the ways of the Shaman, he too can possess animals by mentally transferring himself into their physical form possessing the body of a rabbit for example will allow Brave access to rabbit holes and smaller, tight spaces. Or possess an angry grizzly bear to wipe out lots of enemies
One of Brave's closest allies is the Spirit Eagle. The Spirit Eagle will award Brave with Eagle feathers, feathers which allow him to collect spirit energy and which he can call upon to temporarily make himself stronger and a far deadlier warrior. Most importantly though, the Eagle submits itself to Brave, allowing him to fly on his back and perform tasks otherwise beyond Braves abilities.
Brave's journey will need to take in many different terrains. Terrain ranging from lush forests, desert planes, icy lands, raging rivers, the sky above, and even the spirit world. And Brave will need to use all his abilities to find Spirit Dancer, from swimming, to climbing, to use of the longbow and tomahawk, plus mastery of magical spells, and mystical abilities. He'll also need to learn to control numerous means of transport, such as the canoe, the Eagle, and the buffalo.
His journey won't be easy, but it's a journey he must take, a journey fraught with danger and revelation, a journey which he must complete. The Search for Spirit Dancer.

great fun
I'm no hardcore gamer, not by any leap of the imagination; just like to have FUN playing, rather than end up nutting the tv screen! I love this game ... the colourful graphics and gorgeous backdrops, the story and native american theme, loads of dreamcatcher health and also spirit-energy top-ups that make it hard to die, the 5 feathers you earn during the game that allow you to become more powerful during a slighter tougher fight (i.e. for hardcore gamers out there, a pretty wussy fight but GREAT fun). Only towards the end of the game did I find it a little more difficult, but it was just enough to be a bit testing (for me!) but fine after trying it a few times and realising the technique. You can use the 'give me all the help possible' setting too, so e.g. if you are canoeing and bump the canoe too many times and have to restart that part, a tip comes up.
Lots of fun to be had canoeing, tracking, mimicking, fishing, using ice-picks to climb, flying on the eagle's back dropping boulders onto enemies in order to get the pieces of an amulet, morphing into spirit bear and thumping and eating cemetery warriors, having a sasquatch help you fight wolves, whacking skeleton things while riding on a buffalo, and scrapping with first a stick, then a tomahawk, then a bow and arrow ... killing beetles, wolves, freaky dead warriors etc. And the end-boss, the Wendigo, takes quite a while to kill, but as you are on the eagle's back you can at any time fly through a huge white orb to refill your health and blaster, so no problem.
The controls are fine, plus the help system can display the controls when needed anyway, e.g. for lighting a fire. The game very regularly autosaves too, another feature that means you can just enjoy playing it.
The only frustration was that occasionally near the end when climbing along the lava, jumping, and using the throwing axe, sometimes Brave'd seize up and get splattered by the lava creatures. As the next bit was to quickly scrap with some small stone ogres and then summon lightening and jump back over to zap the huge stone ogre, I restarted (made Brave drop off the wall) if it seized up and he got hit, as you need your health fully topped up to beat the big stone ogre. Beating him, and the little stones that drop off him, means going round the outskirts of the area, and, as your lightening circle around you grows, pressing Square to zap the stone ogre when he's within your lightening circle. Took about 7 hits and some running and dodging, but that's the hardest it gets really! And towards the end, you need to time jumps well, but, again, not difficult.
There aren't any secrets or hidden levels to unlock etc, but that doesn't detract at all. The game can be played in a few different languages, so I am now playing it in spanish, to help with my spanish studies ... fun way to learn. Highly recommend Brave; fun to play and replay.
Good Choice
I really love this game.
Its constantly changing, so you dont get bored of having to slave your way through long arduious levels that just seem to reapeat themselves over and over. One minute your running around in the deepest darkest pasrts of the rain forest, battling the watery rapids in your cannoe and attacking evil wolves, the next your scaling snowy mountain peaks with bigfoot. What fun!
The strong structure of the game makes it really easy to follow, i mean, you are pretty much going where your told to, but the fun graphics and interesting scenery make up for the lack of independance.
All the characters are great fun and the cut scenes are short so theres no hanging around repeatedly hitting all the buttons trying to figure out a way to escape long pointless conversations.
I think its great fun, but dont expect your gaming intelect to be challenged.
Brave is excellent
Not many people know about this game. There has been a demo in ops2 but they didnt review it.Trust me this is a good game and deserves buying if you love platformers like rachet and clank or jak and daxter. You can climb trees and use a bow and arrow and a tomohawk. You can ride buffalo and hawks. You can travell about in a canoe.Whats not fun about that? The game takes you from lush jungles to scorching hot deserts and ice caves. It has a working volcano!Plus you can mimic the shape and noise animals make.If i was to score it i would give it:
Graphics - 8
Gameplay - 8
Sound - 7
Lifespan - 8
Theres plenty to do so if you like platformers/action/adventure games then this game is for you
SCORE - 8
Plus its rare!
