Manufacturer's Description
Simply clip this super-slim flash audio player onto your belt and you're ready to go. With its four-line LED display and built-in USB plug, the YP-U2QB makes a great traveling partner whether you're taking a cross-country train trip or a jog through the city. The device offers support for MP3, WMA, WAV, and OGG audio files, and is also compatible with PlaysForSure WMA subscription music services.

The YP-U2QB's audio performance is enhanced by a nine-band customizable equalizer and eight EQ presets, which include normal, rock, classical, jazz, house, ballad, R&B, and dance. Plus, the device offers a built-in clock for timekeeping and a multilanguage menu interface that accommodates users from across the globe. Perhaps the most convenient feature, however, is the direct-insert USB plug. Rather than offering a USB jack that requires an independent USB cable, the YP-U2QB plugs directly into your PC's port. Simply remove the cap and you're set.
The YP-U2QB --which is compatible with PCs running Windows 98 SE, Me, 2000, or XP--offers support for both USB 1.1 and 2.0 interfaces and includes a built-in lithium-polymer battery that recharges via the USB connection (each charge offers roughly 20 hours of playback). And at 3.45 x 0.96 x 0.5 inches (W x H x D), the device fits conveniently in the palm of your hand or in a jacket pocket. As with all Samsung MP3 players, the YP-U2QB carries a one-year warranty on parts and labor.
The Samsung YP-U2QB Direct Insert USB Digital Audio Player uses PlaysForSure technology. Look for the PlaysForSure logo if you're shopping for a portable music or video device and you want to make sure the digital music and video you purchase will play back on it every time. Match the PlaysForSure logo on a large selection of leading devices and online music stores. If you see the logo, you'll know your digital music will play for sure. Choose from a large number of digital music and video stores, including MTV's Urge, Rhapsody, Yahoo!, MSN Music, MusicMatch, MusicNow, Napster and many more.

Great player but a couple of gripes
This 2GB player from Samsung has an excellent build quality and is easy to use. The only physical gripe is the position of the headphone socket. It is on the under side as you look at the display so the jack plug sticks out the bottom which is visually displeasing and slightly uncomfortable in the pocket. If you are using it as a pen drive you may need to find a USB port with empty ones next to it as it is a little bigger than most flash drives (but smaller than an iPod shuffle).
The supplied music management software isn't easy to use, I spent an hour trying to work out how to make playlists and transfer them to the player without any success. The help file for the software wouldn't show as I didn't have some font installed and I didn't want to hunt in the loft for my XP install disc. So I've decided not to use it any more.
However, my music collection is stored in folders for each artist with sub-folders for each album. Simply dragging and dropping the folders in Windows Explorer moved the music across, then using the navigation option on the player menu, you can browse the player's contents by artist then album which suits me fine.
The player will show folder and filename information if you don't tell it to show tag information in the options/settings menu.
The sound is very good with Samsung's own 3D sound system built in but it also has the usual Rock/Classical/Voice/etc. pre-set equalisers and an 11 band equaliser for you to fiddle with. Having tried most of them, I found the default 3D setting was best for the music I like.
During startup, the player would freeze at 80% every other time. This was annoying as it had to be reset with a pin (or a staple which was easier to find at the time). I managed to fix this by updating the firmware which is available from the support section of the Samsung website. Once the updater software was installed the upgrade only took 10 seconds!
In conclusion, this is a very pleasing music player / flash drive, good value for money and good build quality. The supplied software was a chore to use, the headphone socket position I can live with, and the freezing during startup seems was fixed with a firmware upgrade so I giving it 4 out of 5 stars.
Quality audio player
The amazon description, at the moment, describes another product! The tech specifications are correct though.
The YP-U2QB is a media player. By which I mean it plays more than MP3, including the superior Ogg Vorbis. It also plays WAV WMA.
Sound quality is as good as anything similar, maybe better. Though the packaged in-ear headphones aren't great and with oddly long arm. The headphone socket is on the side rather than the end, which is a little inconvienent as the plug then pokes out.
The display is positively good, and readable for something so small. Navigation is simple. Not seen it use the ID3 data yet though, just file names, and directories.
Power comes from the internal battery, which is recharged through USB. So no changing batteries on the road, and when the battery is truly dead it seems it isn't replaceable.
I've not used the packaged Microsoft Windows Software, not having an installed copy of the operating system. Yep! Despite the packaging stating "Windows Only" this does mount as a standard mass storage device, so will work on Mac and Linux if you know how to copy files onto a Mem Stick.
A fantastic product
This Samsung YP-U2 is the most amazing Media Player I have ever had the pleasure to use!
It's great - it just works. You plug it in, and it appears like a standard USB Key Drive/Memory Stick. You just drag and drop your Ogg (or Mp3 or whatever) files to it, and just play them back! You can even use Sound Juicer to rip straight from your own CD onto the player - amazing.
...and at that price, it's fantastic value - I got about 35 albums on the device at once, which is enough to keep me going all week!
You can copy all your favourite programmes and work to it too, which is really handy!
If you want a Media Player that's fantastic value and just works, this is the one to buy!
