Editorial Reviews

CD Description
While Bowery Electric's self-titled, self-produced debut has a number of fairly obvious influences--Spacemen 3, Loop, and My Bloody Valentine, for example--the important thing is what they do with those influences. Signed to Chicago's Kranky Records, Bowery Electric weld layered, trance-inducing guitar riffs to powerful beats, creating dense, neo-industrialsoundscapes augmented with vocals and pulsing bass notes. The humanising effect thus generated is often absent in the work of their influences and peers.
Standouts include the swirling "Next to Nothing", which highlights a solid, funky beat and lush man/female vocal duet, and "Over and Over", a sedate and very stately instrumental employing only a twisting interplay of guitar and bass. In the cyclically structured "Slow Thrills", a guitar riff ebbs and flows, spinning a web of echoing metal over a skeleton of steady, percussive beats. Perhaps the most impressive thing about BOWERY ELECTRICis that the dense, mesmerising sound seems so natural that it comes as a great shock when the songs end.

Customer Reviews

DRONE HEAVEN!5
Bowery Electric brings new meaning to the musical term "droning"! To "drone" is to create really long constant tones and sounds that just go on forever in a really nice way. This three piece act is among the worlds finest drone bands; the guitars build up several layers of tones with tons of delay, reverb and distortion and other effects on them and the bass and the drums create hypnotic grooves that build the foundation for the music which drags you into its own peculiar world.
The vocals are hidden in the mix almost like whispers that add to the intense and delightful atmosphere of the songs.
I bought this album in a cd shop in Reykjavik in Iceland in 2002 and I will never regret it! I love this!!! check it out!
