My dream issue of Theaker's Quarterly Fiction would probably feature a novella by HP Lovecraft, another from this fine book...

Customer Reviews

Fantastic5
I have never used 5 stars until now
I only really bought the book after hearing other good reviews about it and now I know why. Its is brilliant plain and simple.

The book follows the adventures of two characters a humans and a dwarf as they travel through the world on adventures. Its based on the warhammer world in the area known as the empire. You dont really have to know the world or the game to understand the book though.

There are lots of great twists and jokes in it, the author really tells a good story.

I can strongly recommend it to any reader who likes fantasy novels of any kind.

A Brilliant Example Of Fantasy Writing 5
The Black Library is one of the best things to come out of Games workshop in years and this the first collection of one of their first series is one of the reasons why. Set in the fantasy world of Warhammer (which you don't have to be familiar with) the books collected here follow the adventures of a human Felix Jaegar a disowned son of a merchant now turned adventurer and his adventuring partner a dwarf Gotrek Gurnisson a trollslayer sworn to seek an honourable death to make up for a past sin. Felix much to his occasional regret was rescued from a nasty fate by Gotrek which led him to end up swearing an oath one druken night in a tavern to write an epic poem about Gotrek's heroic death when he finally met his end. The books collected here are a fine example of fantasy writing done well with a nice punchy style, plenty of action and a good dose of dark humour. Credit to William King who seems to be especially good at writing these characters.

Life is colourless without it!5
Follow the adventures of a suicidal dwarf slayer and warrior poet as they travel across the lands in search of the ultimate foe. I'm glad to say after finally finishing this fantastic series I was not disappointed. From epic battles within ancient dwarven cities to barren mountain passes, Gotrek and Felix never fail to disappoint with exciting action and tense plotlines. I'm not really sure what else to say, I went through the first book and thought it was good, somehow from there they managed to get even more epic each time. Trollslayer gives you a great introduction and invaluable glimpse into the personalities and capabilities of both characters, skavenslayer involves crafty conspiracies, and Demonslayer churns out something I've been waiting for to long. But at the risk of ruining the plots I'll say no more, trust me when I say you need these books!
