Jeremy Kyle is not just the television presenter famous for his frank, and sometimes confrontational, approach to his guest’s problems. He is also a son, a brother, a father, and a recovering addict. Every part of his life has in some way influenced and shaped the views he expresses on his show. From his happy upbringing in Reading, to his daily struggles with OCD and overcoming his problems with gambling, his knowledge of life’s ups and downs comes from hard-won experience, and have taught him that honesty – above all with oneself – can be the key to a life well-lived.
Here, in his first book, he takes a hard look at the social problems blighting modern Britain and seeks a route towards their solution. He stresses the need for the firm hand and unconditional love that seems so absent from certain young parents and questions the morals of those who see having children purely as a money-making exercise. And he maps out an agenda for change, insisting on the importance of personal responsibility and strong government in ironing out our nation’s creases.
Recounting his own story, alongside the tales of the people from his often controversial show, Kyle delves into the shady, neglected corners of our society and surfaces with a spirited call-to-arms. The result is not just an honest judgment of modern British life, but a no-holds-barred account of his own, told with all the candour, spirit and honesty that have become his trademark.

Preaching to the converted?
Love him or hate him (or the society that spawned him) - one thing you cannot do is ignore Mr Kyle. He is brutally honest and scores heavily in the 'broken society' stakes with his comments on benefit babes. In many ways Kyle is like a Tory throwback - a pre-Cameron man with a simplistic - although sometimes correct - view on life. It could be argued that this is a rant rather than a book - with Jeremy often losing his temper (in print) the same way he does on the old goggle-box. Still, it is hard not to like a guy who is honest as the day is long; a very unfashionable character trait these days - with people being scared to express an opinion. Overall this is a good book, although it may raise your blood pressure to extreme limits!
If you like books about family life - again with lashings of honesty - then try One Love Two Colours: The Unlikely Marriage of a Punk Rocker and His African Queen by Margaret Oshindele. This is a book about the true life experiences of a Nigerian woman and her struggles in England - being married to an English punk rocker.
Jeremy you speak for every hardworking person
I have been watching Jeremy Kyle for many years and I find his honesty very refreshing. Why shouldn't he make his feelings known to the many hapless and feckless people who volunteer to be on his show. He is only speaking on behalf of every honest, hard working person in the UK. Our benefits system should have a radical shake up and only those who have paid into the pot should be eligible to draw out. If a person is not insured and their house burns down, they can't make a claim for compensation. The system was originally set up to protect those who were unfortunate enough to lose their jobs but now it has become a way of life. We are considered to be a soft touch and that is why so many legal and illegal immigrants are risking life and limb to get over here for their handouts. It is a disgrace and it is about time we put an end to a facility which was designed to help those who had fallen on hard times not for those who choose to live off the back of others who are grafting every day. Long may Jeremy continue to be the voice of those people who think that they should be responsible for their own lives and that of their families.
On a more positive note Jeremy's back room team offer help and support to those who recognise their failings and wish to turn their lives around and all credit to the show for their success in their endeavours. It is something that the State do not seem capable of offering.
Better than I thought
I think Jeremy Kyle is self important and smug but there is something about him that makes me want to find out what he is going to come out with next! Recently being made redundant and having to rely on benefits I thought this book would be quite interesting. It is full of strong opinions as expected and he also tells us about some of his problems (surprisingly he isn't as unbreakable as you think). I actually found it a very encouraging and positive read, if your life isn't going well this does give you a boost! I think the guy could do with a wack but he does seem to care, entertaining stuff. Fans of the show will find the chapter titles amusing as well.
