| DVD camcorders use recordable and re-writable 8cm DVD discs (2cm smaller than standard DVD discs on which your films are distributed). DVD camcorders saw reasonable success for a while but the format is fast conceding to HDD and Memory Card camcorders. With the exception of JVC, all the major brands have produced DVD camcorders - some which record either SD (standard definition) whilst others create HD (high definition) movie clips. DVD camcorders that record SD video tend to employ the same video compression system as used by standard DVD disc recorders - MPEG2. High Definition DVD camcorders tend to use the AVCHD format - one which is being pioneered by Sony, Panasonic and Canon. Here's a selection of recommended DVD camcorders that record either SD or HD video.
