Excellent fusing of reggae and traditional Celtic folk tunes4
Edward II performed most of the Zest tracks live at the Cropredy folk festival in Oxfordshire just before the album was released. The unusual mix of solid reggae/dub bass lines with melodies and words of traditional Celtic folk songs is a novel and unorthodox treatment of the raw material. However, the effect was an instant get-up-and-dance experience for a crowd more used to finger-in-the-ear renditions of these numbers. The CD itself conveys most of the feel of the live experience albeit a studio recording. Big speakers and lots of volume make this a folk-reggae album that breaks just about all the conventional rules...great stuff, more please !!

Edward II - Zest5
EII are a revelation and Zest is a wonderful introduction to this unique band. Folk music and reggae combined - how does that work? Wonderfully! Try listening to this without tapping your feet and sneaking a secret smile. It's catching - and if you get a chance to see EII live - take it - they are a real treasure and I defy you not to tap a foot and start to move to the music. For now though, make do with Zest or any other EII treasure you can find. The line up changes but the music stays wonderful, fresh and curiously different from anything else out there.

folk reggae classic5
edward ii were probably,at the time of wicked men/zest,manchesters best live act,and many a time at pj bells, this band had the place jumping.you would never think a folk reggae act would work, but as zest shows, this album is a melting pot of great music, from the first song people get ready to the last song ,the old and the new, edward the second have recorded a great album which will stand the test of time, with great tracks like home, the wild mountain thyme, special kind of woman and people get ready,if you like an album that will get your foot tapping at the least ,or dancing round the room ,try and get this album
