That's language-learning success.
That's Rosetta Stone.
No translation or memorization required.
The most effective way to learn a new language is to be surrounded by it. When you were an infant, your parents taught you this way, by intuitively associating words with images. That's the ultimate language lab, but most language-learning programs completely ignore this.Think about all of the ways you've tried to learn a language: classes at school, tapes and cassettes, even software that uses your native language as a base for your next one. What do they all have in common? Translation and memorization.
Instead of taking a "direct flight" from your brain to your new language, translation and memorization connects you to your old language. You always have to "fly" from your brain, to your native tongue ... and then translate what you've memorized to communicate.
That might work for a few words, but what happens when you get to a sentence or phrase? When you have to change tenses? You're going to make a lot of "connecting flights." That's why those other methods are so frustrating ... and why they fail.
Enter Dynamic Immersion.
This method encourages you to think like a baby. You'll pair words with vivid, real-life images and make connections between things you know and the new language. Soon, you'll be thinking in a new language, stringing words together into phrases that you create.
Innovative technology.
Rosetta Stone places this Dynamic Immersion method at the core of a suite of software that works with you to develop your skills. The simple, intuitive interface helps to keep you engaged in the solution, while advanced speech recognition technology makes certain that you're speaking correctly and accurately. Best of all, Rosetta Stone never leaves you behind. You'll only move forward when you're ready, when you've become comfortable and confident.

Customer Reviews
A reasonable way to learn Spanish
I travel frequently to South America and have found it frustrating that I do not know Spanish. I have spent roughly a month doing Levels 1-3 of Rosetta Stone and intend to do Levels 4-5 soon. I find the approach intuitively interesting and the program is fun to use. I had used Rosetta Stone to review French (Levels 1-3) and found this helpful as well.
The approach won't work for all. I took Latin in school when I was younger and therefore it is not an issue for me that the grammar is presented intuitively rather than formally. I still however have been using other sources as I worked through the Rosetta Stone course. In particularly I have used "Spanish for Dummies All-in-One" and a Collins Spanish book. The "Spanish for Dummies All-in-One" book has a tear-off one page sheet on conjugations which is helpful.
If you work at it hard you can definitely get through 3 levels in one month. It's a beginning. You can speak sentences and have a basic understanding. Not more. But you are ready to start harder things like reading books (with a really good dictionary). I've looked at other packages and they all have strengths and weaknesses. But as software to quickly get you to a basic level of undestanding, Rosetta Stone is hard to beat.
One problem with Rosetta Stone is the customer service is absolutely terrible. Based in India, my experience with a problem was simply that they ask you either to disable virus checkers or reinstall. You are basically on your own if anything goes wrong with the product. So you run a risk here.
Espanyol
I am very impressed with this product. I would recommend this language cd to anyone wanting to learn a good level of spanish.
Only half way through the first cd-rom so far, and already i have quickly managed to understand long sentences when listening (escucho) although my essex accent may need some tweeking before i can fluently pronounce what i know i am meant to be saying, but having a lot of fun with it all so far.
I've been underwhelmed by Rosetta Stone Spanish
I bought the whole package and i'm currently half way through Level 2. It's quite easy to use, and relatively enjoyable, but i don't think it's good preparation for thinking independently and working things out for yourself. I also think it works best when followed very frequently, whereas i've done it maybe a couple of times a week. Overall i have found other language tools more useful (grammar books, podcasts etc) and i don't think Rosetta Stone represents good value.
