Customer Reviews

Top notch antivirus and security application5
I have already reviewed Bitdefender's Internet Security application for Amazon, which features their antivirus application as part of the suite. However this product may be more suitable for those who do not wish to have all elements of their security in one application suite.

The antivirus product is definitely high quality, with constantly updated definitions supplied at regular intervals during an average day rather than once or twice a week as other products only offer. I installed this onto an Asus netbook running XP, although the product is compatible with Vista and Windows 7 for anyone wishing to add it to those operating systems. Despite the netbook having limited processing power it runs quite happily with this AV onboard, and I would have no hesitation in recommending it for that class of device. On other platforms such as laptops and desktops it will therefore be a resource light application and run smoothly, especially on older machines with not as much grunt.

The full suite reviewed elsewhere is excellent, as is the antivirus standalone product. It is more than an AV as security is monitored, various health functions being checked and reported as vulnerabilities in addition to just sweeping for nasties. If you do not require the various firewall and other functions of the full release then the standalone antivirus application is one of the strongest and lightest products out there.

Appears to be a decent antivirus - Very Impressed5
Having installed this on my spare computer (which is rather low spec in the current market), its hard not to notice that it doesn't use many system resources. Even though the recommended specifications at 1.5GB of RAM, it runs rather well on just 256MB (Yes, I know, that's terrible!). The installation process went very smoothly, and after 1 restart, it was ready to be used.

All the screens on the basic mode are very user friendly (There are 3 different layouts depending on how experienced you are with a computer - personally I don't really see the need, as I just let it get on with what it wants to do, but perhaps there are others who like to be a bit more in control. In that case, the expert screen is for you) On the simple layout, which is the default, the screen is very clear with not much clutter on it. It is immediately obvious what everything does, such as antivirus, networking for viewing information about other computers, update etc. There is absolutely no need to read any manuals of help files in getting to know how to use it; unlike some antivirus products.

It also has all the usual features such as automatic update, warning flags when it needs user intervention, and automatic scanning of external devices which have been plugged in.

With regards to how effective, only time will tell, however it is reckoned to be up with the best on the market, such as Kasperksy,Norton etc. Overall, I've been very satisfied, although I would recommend going for the more complete Internet Security package if wanted more assurances of keeping viruses and malware out, as it includes a firewall. For the basic antivirus package however, this seems very good.

Bargain4
Easy to install, doesn't slow my laptop down (having previously used McAfee which killed my speed, this is a blessed difference) and, so far, it's doing its job excellently.

It doesn't have a firewall, so it leaves you feeling a little vulnerable, but it can be used in conjunction with Windows firewall (assuming that's your OS) without weakening your security so it's not a huge problem.

It's really simple, with nothing complicated to flick on and off, and it's a bit of a bargain. Definitely recommended if you're on a tight budget and want something reliable that won't grind your pooter to a halt.
