A great Sunday morning record.5
The debut album from Blanche is a real treat. They are alt.country similar to The Handsome family. The band consists of Dan Miller, his wife Tracee Mae,who between them provide guitars, bass and vocals along with pedal steel guitar, banjo and drums, from Feeny,Patch Boyle and Lisa.Their originals compositions are excellent, along with a version of the traditional "Wayfaring strange" and an unusual version of "Jack on fire" from The Gun Club. There are some real haunting vocals along with a feel good humerous side, the whole album is uplifting and should appeal to music lovers everywhere. They are also a great band live ,so if you get the chance to see them play, take it!

Fine and Dandy4
Being given this CD to listen to and hearing they have recently supported the White Stripes on tour, you get the feeling you're not in for your normal run of the mill rock band. Drawing from country root influences that inspire the White Stripes in places, Blanche are defiantly original.

If you have ever listened to a Dandy Warhols album where it sounds chaotic, but yet neat, rounded and complete, I think this will sound familiar. That is not where the comparisons with that Dandy's end, with haunting country ballads with male and female vocals that could have come from Thirteen Tales...

There are lighter moments on this album, such as 'Garbage Picker' and 'Jack On Fire' where a sound chorus and melody gives you something to hum about. In places Blanche are almost a note perfect version of a Scottish band called Cosmic Rough Riders, who never got their limelight for music very similar to this. A light, happy, almost hippy type band who's type of music shines through here too.

Blanche have produced an album that is thought provoking, clever and solid. I would recommend this to the listeners who want a bit of a challenge. Certainly not the most accessible music I own.

** Like:- Cosmic Rough Riders, Dandy Warhols mixed with REM ***

Blanche - If We Can't Trust The Doctors, Buy it!5
After seeing 'Blanche' perform live as a support band for the 'White Stripes' in January, I was determined to get their record!
A wise move that was, the record itself has a variety of tracks, ranging from deeply meaningful lyrics to highly comical tracks. The musical talent of this band is astounding and will no doubt make you want to buy a pedal slide guitar!
The music may put of some people with its "country" feel. However, this is not a bad thing, and the music genre verges on rock anyway!
Definately a worthwhile purchase, hours of listening pleasure will come from it!
