Manufacturer's Description
The SlingCatcher is a universal media player for your TV. SlingCatcher's on-screen interface and remote control provide easy access to TV from your Slingbox, Internet video from your PC, or personal media from your USB hard drive. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the digital age on your TV screen.
If you have Slingbox you can watch any device connected to it on another TV |
Access Your Slingbox on Another TV
The SlingCatcher allows you to access any device connected to your Slingbox on another TV in your home or even a TV in another location.
Watch and Control Your Slingbox-Connected DVR from anywhere in your home
Digital video recorders (DVRs) are great, and anyone who has ever used one can't go back to the old way of watching TV. But if you have multiple TVs in your house, your DVR content is usually stuck on one of them. The solution? Hook up a Slingbox to your DVR and, using your home broadband network and a SlingCatcher, watch your DVR on another TV elsewhere in the house. Instantly you can watch and control your DVR and all its programming from that TV too -- with no additional monthly fees.
Connect to Your Slingbox when away from home
Want to watch your home TV when away in a second or even holiday home but don’t want to sit at a computer to do it?... Well hook up a SlingCatcher to the TV there (and your broadband network) and away you go. With a SlingCatcher you can connect to your home Slingbox via a broadband internet connection anywhere and then use the included remote control to watch your home TV on a TV set, not the computer. Kick back, relax and catch up with all your favourite shows wherever you are.
Enjoy content from your PC on your TV such as BBC iPlayer, Lovefilm or YouTube |
Project Internet Video from Your PC to Your TV
SlingProjector software for Windows XP and Vista* lets you select any window on your PC to project full screen onto your TV. This is ideal for watching an ever increasing amount of Internet video content on your TV instead of a laptop screen. Clips from YouTube or internet TV, full episodes from iPlayer or Demand Five, even streaming feature length movies from Lovefilm can all be projected to your big screen, so you can sit back on the couch and enjoy. SlingProjector works with most web sites and video players.**
Project YouTube from your PC
Everyone knows YouTube. Whether you find the millions of hours of user-generated video funny, disgusting, educational, or a good way to veg out on a Sunday afternoon, now you can easily share your favorite moments with family and friends on your big screen TV rather than hunkered around a tiny laptop.
Project Catch-up TV from Your PC
Just plug a SlingCatcher in to your TV and you can watch all the catch-up TV services from your laptop including BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD or Demand Five on the large screen.
Project Lovefilm from your PC
If you have a Lovefilm account, you already know you can stream thousands of full-length TV shows and movies to your computer. That's great if you're a lonely guy living in a 6' x 6' box. But if you want to watch a show or movie with your family, you probably want to sit back on the sofa with a bowl of popcorn. Now you can. And you never have to wait for your DVDs to arrive in the mail.
Watch media content directly from your USB hard drive |
Watch Your Personal Media on Your TV
Watch Home Movies from Your USB Hard Drive
If you have kids, you probably have lots of video tapes full of great moments, and you just haven't gotten around to compiling and burning DVDs so you can share with the rest of the family. Now you can store those movies on a portable USB hard drive. Just plug it into the SlingCatcher, and you have instant access to your entire video library -- to share with friends and family.
Watch Podcasts from Your USB Hard Drive
Video podcasts let you keep up with the latest on every imaginable or niche topic. From comedy to news to personal health, you can subscribe to podcasts 'til your hard drive is overflowing. The problem, of course, is that you have to watch them on your tiny phone or small computer screen. With SlingCatcher, just plug in your USB drive or memory stick filled with podcasts, and you can sit back on the couch and watch to your heart's content.
* Macintosh support not currently available. SlingProjector is not supported when run in a virtual environment like Parallels, VMware or Microsoft Virtual PC.
** Projection of HD-DVD and Blu-ray video from a PC to SlingCatcher is not supported.

Customer Reviews
Perfect companion to SlingBox
I can't believe that there are negative reviews for this product - it's great!
I am an ex-pat living in Germany and cannot stand the "local" TV (all 70's repeats) so a SlingBox in the UK has been my saviour for the last 2 years. There were 2 problems with this setup that the SlingCatcher nicely solves:
1) Previously, I needed to have my laptop connected to the TV to get a nice picture size for the whole family to watch which was annoying to connect each time and left cables hanging around the TV for the little ones to pull on. The SlingCatcher is tiny any just sits there nice and neatly waiting for us at any time
2) No remote control! Try watching TV without a remote control for a while and then imagine this for 2 years! Every time we needed to fast forward through the adverts someone (i.e. me) had to get up from the sofa and use the virtual remote on the PC sling software. While it may be good for a bit of exercise, sometimes I just want to lie on the sofa in peace.
So.. Is it worth £200 to make the living room a bit cleaner and to allow me to have a remote control when watching TV? Absolutely. Every penny.
The other features (Sling Projector, etc) are a great bonus too but for me, being the "other half" of the SlingBox was the reason for purchase!
SLINGCATCHER WELL WORTHY OF PURCHASE...
Purchased the slingcatcher after previously watching slingbox through the laptop. The slingcatcher is much more convenient when compared to having to start up the laptop, log in etc plus the slingcatcher comes with a handy remote control! Bought a cheap HDMI cable with the slingcatcher, plugged into the 42" Plasma and after a little tweaking (you need to set up an online account and password) with slingmedia first I am now watching UK freeview in Jerusalem. Well worth the purchase however you need a fast uplink speed in the UK (sling recommends min 250kbps)...I normally average about 480kbps and the picture is fine....sometimes the speed gets upto 900kbps first thing in the morning and you can then change the slingcatcher resolution from 320*240 to 640*240 with improved picture. Note that even at lower 320*240 resolution the picture is still fine on the 42" plasma. Please note though that when the speed reduces below the 100kbps the picture gets unwatchable. This has happened once only in the last month though. Well worth a purchase if you live abroad, like UK TV/ don't like local TV, have a fast UK internet upload speed and atleast a 500kbps to 1000kbps download speed.
Well worth the wait !
Fantastic product.
I'm using it to connect to the Slingbox in the US. Instead of the old way of hooking up a laptop to the TV here, I've now neatly connected the the Slingcatcher. And it works great. I have it hooked up to a Panasonic 42" plasma with component connectors. The image is very good once the available bandwidth goes above 256K. Image is as good as a normal cable TV feed above this. Unworkable below 100K - which I would expect.
I've used it to access a local Slingbox on my home network connected to a Sky+ box. Bandwidth available ramps up to about 4Mbps. Picture is almost as good as directly connecting the Sky box. No delays, pixilation, etc etc.
I have tried the Slingprojector feature, and find it too manual - setting up a stream on a PC, selecting the window, and walking back and forward to get it all going. Fine if your technically inclined. It works, and it's not bad for playing something off YouTube, but I won't bother with it.
Interestingly, it turned out to be a good test of wireless vs hard-wired. Streaming from a wired PC gives a perfect picture. Streaming from a laptop wirelessly connected gives poor, jittery results, with regular freezes. Seems to agree with reviews elsewhere here.
Overall, thoroughly delighted and would highly recommend Slingcatcher for its main function of connecting to a Slingbox.
