Passport to Success with Back-ups
When I switched recently from a Windows laptop to a MacBook I needed an external drive for back-up purposes. I wanted something more convenient than the bulky Seagate and Maxtor drives that I already owned. I researched the drives sold by the Apple store but worried about reviews stating problems with reliability. Eventually I looked on Amazon and saw the Western Digital My Passport Essential hard drive. It had received some rave reviews so I took the plunge and bought the 500GB version (I take lots of photographs) in silver to match my MacBook. It arrived by return of post (thanks, Amazon) and was simplicity itself to set up. With no power cord other than the USB cable I plugged it in, selected Time Machine and everything went perfectly first time. I leave it plugged in much of the time so my back-ups are always up-to-date. After a month's use it is still, like my Mac, working flawlessly.

I recommend buying the case Caselogic Small Hard Drive Case, EVA Outer, Black as it is needs protection when not in use.

Excellent USB powered 500GB hard drive that looks great sat under my iMac, works faultlessly with Time Machine with great data transfer speed.

Great little item!
So, so easy. I just plugged it into the USB of my MacBook Pro and it and the Apple did the rest. It's my Time Machine backup - so convenient and easy as there are no power leads necessary. Well recommended!
