Product Description

The nuances of the guard, the most important position in jiu-jitsu, are covered in this instructional guide that teaches practitioners how to put up an impenetrable defense to any opponent. Showing how a myriad of techniques originate in the guard, including sweeps, reversals, and submissions, these drills demonstrate how small changes in hip position and weight distribution can make the difference between success and failure in submission combat. Extraordinarily detailed with tips from leading black belts and down-to-earth advice on what to think about during a match, this guide is instructive reading for even advanced belts seeking to refine their game.

Just a good solid book5
I bought this book as an intro to BJJ. I've studied Ju jitsu and grappling previously but to no great depth and was looking to clarify the basic techniques i thought i knew and maybe learn some new ones.

When grappling you spend a huge amount of time in the guard or trying to pass it and this book is really good. It is a little bit chatty in the intro chapter but once it gets into the techniques section it is really worth the money.

There is a section for drills to improve your flexibility etc and this includes stuff you can do alone as well as with a partner. Then follows various sections detailing many techniques for the various guard positions and how to work them. The pictures are clear and the descriptions are detailed when required.

I would suggest that this book would be ideal for the beginner to intermediate (probably up to blue belt BJJ and maybe worth while to others more advanced) to learn or make sure you know the basics. If you knew and could execute all the techniques in this book you would be doing pretty well.

I don't want to go silly with praise but this is a good solid book and i would suggest an excellent starting point for anyone interested in BJJ or grappling in general.
