Manufacturer's Description
Nokia handsets are renowned for their ease of use. The Nokia 1600 phone continues this tradition with a new, highly intuitive user interface that makes full use of graphical icons and large font sizes all displayed on a 65,536 colour display. With the new menu structure, basic features, such as managing calls and contacts, are made easier to access. Other new features include a Speaking Clock with Alarm, which announces the time in the user's local language, as well as large fonts to allow greater readability.
Nokia 1600 phones have excellent voice quality and coverage based on state-of-the-art radio software with AMR and SAIC. The AMR (Adaptive Multi Rate) technology enables operators to add voice capacity within their networks smoothly and cost-efficiently. SAIC (Single Antenna Interference Cancellation) is a network independent capacity enhancing feature in the handset, improving network capacity and call quality.
The Nokia 1600 also features a "Demo Mode," an on-screen visual guide of primary phone functions for first-time mobile phone users. The demo guide also allows consumers to play the pre-installed games or hear the Speaking Clock without a SIM card inserted into the phone. Weighing 85 grams, the Nokia 1600 has a talk time of up to 5, 5 hours and a standby time of up to 450 hours.
In addition to polyphonic ring tones with MP3-grade sounds, the Nokia 1600 also features a number of cost management features, such as Nokia Prepaid Tracker, which automatically notifies prepaid users of their account balance after each call or message.

The magic battery!
The best feature about this phone is boring but great: the battery lasts for absolutely ages!
I bought it as an Xmas present for a relative who wanted something as easy to use and reliable as possible. I gave it a bit of a test run beforehand and the battery only needed recharging after seven or eight days, and that included calls and texts every day.
The menus are simplified versions of the normal Nokia menu, functions that most people never use have been stripped away and the icons scroll across the screen in a way that lets you see the upcoming icons in the corner.
Interestingly, there's also a series of demo animations which show how to use the main functions of the phone like calls, texts etc. If you ever forget how to do something, you can just pick a demo mode and watch the animation to remind yourself.
I wouldn't recommend this as a phone for more advanced users, it doesn't support Java and it doesn't have any kind of internet connection.
The ringtones are surprisingly good though, about five of them are MP3 files with wonderful sound and even vocals (sample lyric from an M people type singer: "can you hear me when I say... I'm waiting for you to answer my call"), but the catch is that they're built in and you can't add any ring tones of your own.
Oh yeah, and it's also a really good speakerphone. I tried using this with friends and they were unable to tell when I was on speaker and when I was talking normally. I was very surprised because my own smartphone's speakerphone makes me sound like I'm talking from inside a sardine tin.
Basically, this is GREAT for people new to phones or who have no desire to use any advanced features. It hardly ever needs recharging, the screen is bright and colourful and the ringtones sound wonderful. It's not so good for people who want to customise their phones with downloads.
cheap but very cheerful
This is the third mobile phone that i have owned and not only is it the cheapest but also, by far, it's the most user-friendly and best.
If you are just looking to make calls and send texts, as I am, then you'll have to work very hard to better this little gem.
The set up is very straightforward, the display and sound quality clear and crisp, and the phone is compact and smart. The menu system is intuitive and Nokia should be commended for producing a very good package for very little cost.
Oh, and by the way, I know others have mentioned it but THE BATTERY GOES ON FOREVER!
What a great mobile!
I purchased one of this super Nokia 1600 a couple of months ago and I have to say I am SO impressed. The keys are bigger than normal, it has a wonderful colour screen which is bright and clear and the battery just seems to last forever. While it may not have all the features that kids like these days, it is a perfectly functional and ideal mobile for staying in touch and texting. Buy this today - it is a no brainer!
