Product Description

Oi, look here. Oidz might well sound like a cream for a rather painful condition in the posterior region, but these silvery oblongs have no known healing properties. Instead, their inner core replicates the magnetism of Earth itself to produce beautiful, fascinating, mellow sound. In every box come two sleek metallic bullets, looking for all the world like something from a world far away from our own. Beautifully smooth and magnificently metallic, the Oidz mask a deeper purpose, other than being simply marvellous to look at. Harnessing the little understood power of magnetism, they can be manipulated in all sorts of ways to produce supremely ethereal sounds. Think of the background noise of deep space with a hint of Hammer horror and just a touch of spaghetti western. That's one way of putting it, certainly. Or imagine the collective hum of an entire asteroid belt being slowly and mercilessly pulled towards a black hole. Now you know and I know that sound doesn't travel in the vacuum of space, but that's simply not the point. So how does it work? Where are the speakers? Is it all wireless? We simply don't know. There aren't any. And, no. Respectively. It's all to do with magnets. Or, as we prefer to call it, the majesty of the universe.

Manufacturer's Description

Get them before he does...

Oidz are a brand new toy experience. They are amazingly powerful, space-age magnets made by the same people that brought you Magnetoids. Oidz are made from a naturally occurring metal called hematite and are highly polished and magnetized.

Can you make the Oidz Noize?
In order to harness the power of Oidz, you need to make them whirrr and tzzzang.

Trick No. 1 - The Orbiter
Hold the Oidz between your thumb and two fingers about 2cm apart. Toss the Oidz gently into the air and they will produce an amazing sound – the Oidz Noize.

Trick No. 2 - The Attractor
Position the Oidz about 10cm apart then release. Hear the amazing Oidz Noize as they spin.

Trick No. 3 - The Nebular
Hold one Oid between your fingers and thumb and then attach the second Oid to the bottom of the first. Gently swing them back and forth to create a great Oidz display.

Trick No. 4 - The Tracer
Place one Oid on a flat surface and position the other directly underneath. Moving the Oid positioned under the surface, magically makes the other one dance.

Care Tips

  • To keep the tzzzang in your Oidz – wipe them with a clean cloth regularly.
  • If your Oidz are dropped, they should be cleaned immediately before play continues.
  • Adult Supervision required.
  • Check regularly for signs of wear and tear and breakages.

    Warnings

  • Oidz aren't indestructible. Drop 'em on a hard surface and they may break. If they do, be careful of any rough edges, keep away from eyes and dispose of immediately.
  • Do not store magnets near computer disks, audio/video tapes, video monitors, mobile phones and credit cards.
  • Do not use if you have a Pacemaker.
  • Small parts choking hazard not for children under 3.

    very addictive!5
Got hold of these recently having heard a really wierd noise in Toys are us which turned out to be the 'Oidz noize!' these are very strange things, no obvious use but completely necessary. The noise is really easy to make, you can look good fairly instantly and making the noise is very strangly satisfying. There are other noises you can make by rubbing them together in your hands rather than throwing them up- sounds a bit like the 'predator' noise in the movie.
Other uses are classic magnet type stuff, all good fun
I have to recommend these, not just for Kids- these are equally addictive for adults

Believe the warning - keep Oidz away from computers!3
The kids have enjoyed their Oidz, but I would like to draw any purchaser's attention to the warning on the box to keep them away from electrical and computer equipment. We did read this and warned our children last Christmas Day to keep their Oidz away from the laptop, but by September my 7 year old had forgotten this warning and the laptop seemed like a good surface to try and stick the Oidz to. Several hundred pounds later, our crashed laptop returned from the specialists with nothing retrieved - EVERYTHING lost. We were told that the hard drive was one of the most damaged the retrieval/repair company had seen. These are STRONG magnets. Be warned parents - Oidz are good fun for children, but not for computers!

    People magnets!5
I ordered a pair of Oidz as I liked their appearance and was interested to hear the "oidz noise". I took them into the office and everyone was fascinated by them! My niece has also discovered all sorts of tricks you can do with them (I have since ordered two more pairs for her and her brother) and I have to say, I really like the idea that they are learning about magnetism as well as having fun with this very interesting toy. The noise is unlike anything I've ever heard, when I make the sound people stop and ask "what's that?!"

    Highly recommended.
