Excellent tool to hopefully help you pass....
First off, I gave the software to a relative who was studying for her theory/practical car test. Her view is that the software is great easy to install and easily accessible. In particular she found the Hazard Perception and Theory tests of great use. The questions pretty much covered all aspects that need to be covered. The nice thing is that it also gives you confidence in the theory test as the questions are very similar, it's just the wording that differs. She found that what she did in the driving test software, 80% was in her theory test(she did say she felt it may have been higher). She has been reading the books but she finds the software was much more precise and clear and also the fact that at the end of the day you will be sitting next to a computer. So, this reflected reality.
If anything if you have a test, then this software is essential. Obviously, this only helps the theory and as long as you have a great instructor you will be fine. She personally had to change from sub-standard instructors(who were in it for the money) to BSM which she said made a big difference to her driving.
Overall, a definite buy recommendation
Extremely helpful
I requested this software for my 17 year old daughter who has just started driving lessons. We are both so impressed with the help it is being and at the simplicity to install and use the lessons. Already her confidence has been boosted by the improvements she has made on the Hazard Perception and Theory tests. The question bank is extensive and has been a great help in pointing out gaps in her driving knowledge. This is a brilliant product, not only for learner drivers, but also expereienced drivers can use it to refresh their skills.
Helpful amount of data spoilt by the interface
I passed my test before the theory test and suchlike were introduced, and passed my Advanced Driving test a year ago. I've always wondered what the new tests entailed and just how the various software packages are supposed to assist.
First of all, it does have an enormous amount of data within it, presented quite well. The description of the contents by the manufacturer gives an exhaustive list of what you will find within it.
The problems I had with it were mainly regarding the interface. It didn't appear to be possible to minimise it once the software was running, and the only way I could interrupt the video snippets was by terminating it via Task Manager - not the friendliest option I've ever used. In addition I found the sound effects used whenever a selection was made extremely tiresome after a short period of time, but that is easily remedied by switching the speakers off.
It also attempts to sell car insurance somewhere within it. It loses one star just for that - I expect such software to be completely neutral for such a subject.
The descriptions of most signs and hazards are quite accurate, but some are a little off the mark, althought I doubt they are so wrong as to fail a standard DSA test (the Advanced Test would be another matter). For example, a green traffic light doesn't mean 'go', it means 'You may go if the way is clear. Take special care if you intend to turn left or right and give way to pedestrians who are crossing'.
At the price it is, get it for someone learning to drive, as it does add another element to their studying, but make sure they don't use it as their totem - the instructor is the person that really matters.
