Brilliant a must buy.
This is the first book of its type as far as I know, its is well presented and easy to understand, the projects even tell you how much PMC to use by weight which is great especially as I now teach it and I need to know how far the material will go so I can ensure my students have enough to complete the projects set in the book. I hope there will more books by this writer in the future as all his books are second to none and I would recommend all of them to anyone who is interested in working with any kind of metal. The book gives full step by step instructions as well as detailed pictures, not only that there is a section that shows you how to make a lot of the tools that you may need. I can't praise this book high enough and recommed it to all my students..Once read your head will spin with ideas you can make peices that look as if they have been cast Many thanks to Tim. Cheers Rachel
What an excellent book!
This is one of the best books I have purchased in a long time. Lots of wonderful ideas for pieces that are very imaginative, yet very easy to make yourself. Instructions are very clear and easy to follow. The list of suggested tools is very good, too - with suggestions of how to make your own if you don't wish to purchase. All in all an excellent book. I consider myself an advanced crafter, but this book would suit anyone, whether they are a beginner or very experienced.
If you are interested in working with PMC, then THIS BOOK IS A MUST!!! I shall enjoy using it over and over again. Tim McCreight is a genius!
worth a look
This is a very clever book; it leaves the creativity up to the reader by mentioning right at the start that the projects are to allow the reader to gain confidence and not necessarily to follow the designs to the letter.
The book is in three sections, the first contains small projects to complete which vary in difficulty, the second is about specific techniques to use with the clay, the third is about the tools needed to work with the clay (most of which can be found around the home).
The projects are well instructed, and start out simple enough that anyone can try them. This is a great book to dip in and out of and doesn't need to be read from cover to cover to get the most out of it.
Some of the items made in this book were not to my taste, but, the author states repeatedly that the purpose of them is for the reader to get a feel for the clay and to gain confidence with the tools and techniques.
The only thing I didn't like was the fact that there are no photographs of the techniques used, only illustrations. I prefer to see the hands of the author so I can copy them more accurately. However, the instructions are good enough to make up for no photos!
