Customer Reviews
This book got me a job!
This book was recommended to me by my brother after he successfully used the techniques advocated by it to gain his current position. It definitely made me feel more confident and far better prepared for all the interviews I attended, especially the dreaded "assessment centers" which are so commonly utilised by employers these days. It is hard to sum up the qualities of this publication but the statistics speak for themselves:
Interviews = 4, Offers = 4
And I really struggled before I got the book!
Disappointing
Given that this book is in its 7th edition, I had assumed that it must be THE definitive guide to coping with job interviews. It is true that there is much solid information in here. If you are looking for a job and a bit rusty, then there is much essential information in here. However, the book is set out in a really obscure manner. I'm not a complete novice so I didn't want to have to read the book cover-to-cover. I wanted to skip chapters and go to the bits that I struggle with. As a consequence, I found the book very difficult to navigate. I don't know if I can mention job hunting books by other companies here (so I won't), but there are other books which are laid out in a more accessible fashion.
In summary, this is probably a great book if you are willing to invest heavily timewise to read it cover-to-cover (eg you are looking for a complete job hunting makeover). However, if you want to skim a book to pick up some tips, I would advocate that you look elsewhere.
fantastic read : a book with attitude
Read this book many moons ago, I think it was revision 2 or something.
and read bits of it from the newer revisions.
The most important thing this book gives you is the correct attitude for job hunting/careers in general.
Read the book from cover to cover and then walk into an interview and your chances of getting that job are much higher simply because of the frame of mind this book puts you in.
after reading this, my success rate at job interviews went up to about 90%, it puts you in control of the interview, and it feels like your the interviewer, and your interviewing the company on whether you would like to work for them! nice.
