Very disappointing1
I was so disappointed with this book that I deliberately left it behind in my Somerset holiday cottage.

I'm no stranger to using walking books and can usually navigate perfectly well. But my friend and I found it impossible to follow the directions for the walk that we selected from this book. The directions were extremely vague and just did not add up.

The problem was that the landmarks given were very general and there was no indication of distance between them. There was also no indiciation of what direction to walk in. All we had was a small hand drawn map and unhelp instructions to cross field edges etc. After 2 hours of trying different possibilities to get to the farm buildings indicated in the first section we gave up and took the long journey back to the cottage feeling very angry that this book wasted our time.

I wish I'd bought an Ordnance Survey book.

Really good walks5
Whilst I would agree that an OS map is useful in conjunction with the book I have, on occasion, actually needed the directions (and description of landmarks) to help out during a walk. I have completed four of the walks in this book and all have been really good, particularly those on Exmoor and the Quantocks. The routes take you past interesting places and some beautiful scenary - very well picked in my opinion. It also often gives extensions to 5mile walks to make them up to 8 which I liked. I will certainly be walking more routes in this book.
