Great little song book
This A4 glossy covered book has 64 pages in total, with all but 2 sides (of the first page) dedicated to the music. Page one has a list of the songs, and page 2 gives a very brief introduction to playing fingerstyle.
The songs are written out in both notation and tablature with chord names written above, and are of full length. Words to verses are also given.
The only problem I found was that I needed someone to turn to the next page as I was playing, since most of the songs are several pages long, otherwise there was a break while I stopped and turned the pages myself. Anyone who can learn stuff off by heart would soon get over that problem though!
I am not a complete newbie to guitar, but I am by no means proficient, and tend to normally stick to the first position, but I was able to play something straight off - mostly the songs seem quite easy.
When I purchased it, I did not know what was going to be inside the book as the songs are listed inside and on the back of the book, not on the front, so for anyone who needs to know, here are a few songs you will find in it: Blowin' in the Wind, Hey Jude, The Boxer, In my Life, Leaving on a Jet Plane, Tears in Heaven, This Land is Your Land, and You've Got a Friend. (Mostly slow songs so no pressure to have to speed up once you have learned them!)
All in all, I am totally satisfied with this book - it is exactly what I was after - well known, fairly easy to play songs in notation, tab and chord formats. And the price was right, too! One point to make, though, is that this is not a tutor book in any way - it has no instruction on how to play guitar, or how to read music or tab, so you would need some grounding on that first.
good starter
this is a very good book for beginner acoustic players wanting to develop their fingerpicking skills.
its cheap and fun to play.
Fingerpicking good!
I've been looking for a straightforward book which would teach me how to fingerpick songs I recognised. The only downside is that I wish it was like the Contemporary Travis Picking book with it's more in depth explanations, but then this one's got better songs.
