A Vast Improvement on the DAV-IS504
The Good:Very small satellite speakers(all 5 fit in my hand),that can be concealed, can be connected to a lot of different units by HDMI,RGB plus Coax and Optical.Plenty of sound output including floor shaking bass and crisp treble.Has AM/FM tuner and good Blu Ray player whch upscales DVD's to 1080.
The Bad:Currently much more expensive than the DAV-IS50,wireless unit for rear speakers a very expensive optional extra,no HDMI leads supplied, sound not so good on classical music as it is on films.Massive subwoofer box seems out of place with the tiny stylish satellite speakers. Not an integrated system like the DAV-IS50 so you get 2 remote controls and the somewhat pixellated display faces upwards so you cannot see it when seated, making it not very user friendly.
More Info:Also known as HTP-BD3IS,it is basically a Blu Ray update of the DAV-IS50(see my review),but with full compatiblity/connectivity.It consists of HT-IS100 cinema kit with BDPS350 Blu Ray player packaged together. The huge subwoofer box contains an upwards facing lower mid-range speaker, the AM/FM tuner, the downwards facing bass reflex subwoofer and the upwards facing display.
The main weakness in the sound is due to the midrange being split between the mid-range upwards facing speaker(ie.mono) in the subwoofer box and the tiny satellite speakers(ie.stereo).These satellite speakers are described by Sony as full range, but is reality act as tweeters with an extended lower frequency range. This arrangement works well on action movies,eg Terminator 3 is mind blowing, but not so well on classical music,eg Mahler's 8th(Tennstedt),where the sound lacks an accurate stable stereo image and a lot of midrange detail is missing or muddy as is the bass sometimes. My 37 year old Cambridge Audio system put it to shame! However I can live with the compromises in the design as it is the only 5.1 Blu Ray system with such tiny satellite speakers and I just do not have room for anything larger. If you are in the same situation you should buy it.If you have more room then perhaps also look elsewhere for something with much bigger speakers eg HT-SF1300 or HT-SF2000 coupled with a Blu Ray player.

initially looking at a bose system, but found them to be very expensive. searched amazon and found the sony (with good reviews)so thought we'd try it. ordered from amazon and it arrived within 3days. Had to install it straight away (like a kid with a new toy, i could'nt wait)it was very easy to set up, automatically sets up speakers for best sound out put. the quality of the sound and bass is phenomenal, even compared to more expensive brands! if you want the walls to shake, then try Top Gun! it sounds like the fighter jets are touching down in your living room! dont be fooled by the size of the speakers, they are genuinely that small and still give superb sound!

    WORST NIGHTMARE EVER!!!1
Apalling! Do not buy - it is NOT wireless (even with WAHT-SA1) and we never got back 2 speakers working! See other reviews if you don't believe me and steer well clear of Sony's 'creative marketing'!
Pictures of the speakers misleading, all have metres of wiring - three front ones wire into AMP, 2 back ones wire into AMP or S-AIR unit...... wires are EVERYWHERE!
Back 2 speakers rely on S-AIR box receiving signal from AMP (all after HOURS of syncing/pairing/logging/tracking etc.etc.). This signal does not work, despite extra HDMI cables, optical cables, coaxial cables and shredded nerves.
Do yourselves a favour, don't order it ....... have a nervous breakdown.....then have to send it back ........ just buy something different!
