WARNING!! - no HDMI audio here!
OK, OK, the Onkyo 506 is well reviewed and provides the benchmark for entry-level Home Cinema on a budget. Fine for those of you who want to feed it regular "digital" audio via optical/co-axial input...but not for those of us who want to utilise the extra benefits that HDMI Audio provides

Here's the rub - and something not made clear anywhere....took me hours to work out why my system went quiet after setting up this Amp!! ....

The HDMI throughput (input/output) is for VIDEO only ....audio through your speakers can only be achieved by cabling a run of optical/co-ax leads; as well as your HDMIs for the visuals.

If you're looking to streamline your Home Cinema and want an AV Amp to run audio and video directly from the HDMI, then you'll need to double your budget and look elsewhere.

If you want an AV Amp to "manage" your HDMI video inputs from one box whilst still using the "old fashioned" way of connecting and processing surround sound, then this is as good as anything at this price.
