Manufacturer's Description
Toshiba 37WLT68G Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV featuring Active Vision M100 technology
High Definition television from broadcast TV and sources like HD DVD is created by displaying a series of static images in sequence to fool the eye into thinking it is a moving image - just like cinema film. The HDTV broadcast standard and most HD Ready televisions produce 50 picture frames every second to achieve the feeling of motion.
Active Vision M100 technology reproduces a staggering 100 picture frames per second, creating a new intermediate frame between every real frame of the broadcast signal by using advanced 10-bit video processing and real-time 360º motion estimation. Each picture frame is held on screen for only 1/120th of a second to eliminate LCD pixel drift and give a far better sense of true to life movement.
A cricket ball flying through the air, a football hurtling towards the goal or dramatic high-speed car chases are rendered in super smooth motion with pin-sharp detail and none of the blurring or motion smear so commonly seen on basic LCD televisions. On screen text, such as football results or news ‘tickers’ scroll seamlessly across the screen with no judder, dramatically improving their readability.
By scanning the HDTV signal 100 times per second, Active Vision M100 models take the HDTV viewing experience to a new level.
High-Speed Scanning
The HDTV signal is scanned at 100 times per second, twice that of standard HDTVs, to dramatically improve clarity and picture motion.
10-bit Video Processing
Cutting edge 10-bit video processing improves resolution and ‘signal to noise’ ratio to create a faithful reproduction of the HDTV source.
360º Motion Estimation
Active Vision M100 creates fractional picture frames by estimating the movement - in any direction, 360º - of every pixel of the picture frame.
Real Digital
Reduces the number of separate signal conversions to guarantee more of the original signal is retained to display on screen.
Enhanced Detail
Active Vision M100 produces twice the pixels per second of standard HDTVs greatly improving fine detail definition.
Natural Colour
Four times more colour tones than conventional LCD TVs means more realistic scenes and more natural skin tones.
Movement
Active Vision M100 offers class leading motion processing, eliminating blur and smoothing jagged edges even on the fastest moving objects.
Active Backlight Control
The LCD backlight is actively adjusted depending on the brightness of the source signal to optimise contrast and brightness balance.
Standard TV Upscaling
If you are not yet ready to invest in a high definition source, Active Vision M100 models use active internal scaling to reproduce standard TV broadcasts in stunning 1366 x 768 resolution. Off-air analogue and digital TV broadcasts are sharper and more lifelike, and DVDs look better than ever. Toshiba’s Active Vision M100 models are designed to get the very best from the HDTV revolution, now and into the future.

Customer Reviews
Hello Tosh got a Toshiba
I've had this TV for about a week now. Love it! I've been reading up on entry level lcd's for a while now. I specifically wanted a 100hz TV after seeing a friends old 100hz sony TV. I wanted a Bravia but they were too expensive so I did my homework and came up with this!
Against:
As stated in the other reviews the TV is slow to react to the remote, and the remote not intuative so it takes a bit of getting used. Not to mention I dont do manuals!
The picture is a bit bright for me when used straight out of the box but this can be tweaked.
For:
Brilliant clear picture. Got all the freeview and analogue chanels on 1st sweep while settings up.
Looks the nuts in my average sized living room whether switched on or off. Black and silver finish looks expensive.
Conclusion:
I would have given it 5 points if it wasn't for the slowness of the remote control.
I hope this helps and good hunting.
Fantabulous....!!
It was a tough decision to take between the Samsung LE37R87 and this one. This one from Toshiba is a great value for money. I zero-ed in on this based on its positive reviews, users feedback on forums and the awards it has got. The 100Hz frequency really makes a difference. Its a treat to watch.
And Amazon's white-glove delivery was ultimate. I ordered on Thursday, I got a call on Friday afternoon asking what will be my convenient time to receive. We agreed for Monday between 7AM-10AM. It was delivered precisely at 9:45am.
I got a call the next day, asking if everything went well. The whiteglove was really cosy. :)
Great Tv shame about the delivery service...
The Toshiba is my second LCD Tv. The first was also a Toshiba. It is well built, stylish and unobtrusive (for its size!) I like the fact that it is assembled in the UK too and their customer services are good.
The picture is excellent - ok, yes, the black could be slightly better but so what? It is black! Otherwise the colour is superb. Sound, to me, is excellent. The tuner for digital and analogue is very effective and makes a good fist of even weak signals. It also tuned in automatically straight out of the box - very easy set up. Given that these Tvs were upwards of £1500 in January 2007 £569.99 is a bargain!
The only downside was the appalling delivery service Amazon insist on using. Home Direct Network....they LOST the first Tv, failed to deliver the second one on time, then wrote to say it would be delivered the following Monday...and yes, you guessed it, failed to turn up again! Finally it arrived and they blamed Amazon because they had not been given a contact number! I spent hours on the phone and writing emails to Amazon and ended up wasting 5 DAYS staying in to await delivery....unbelievably poor.
So, a bargain Tv if you can stomach the potential delivery nightmare....
Just a wee update after 6 weeks use: Still fabulous. Managed to get a Toshiba HD DVD player in a sale and I have to say that watching the HD version of 'Planet Earth' is jaw-dropping. Equally, the HD DVD is a superb piece of kit for upscaling standard DVDs which look almost as good as HD on this set. Also, it is a doddle to attach an HDD video camera to it.
