With the GR-D cameras JVC introduce a 25x optical zoom and 800x digital zoom. These precision lenses offer new possibilities to users. Images can be enlarged up to 25 times without encountering jagged edges or other undesirable noise in the image. The picture can further be enlarged up to 800 times when the digital zoom is employed. These zoom lenses demonstrate JVC's commitment to push existing technology to new levels.

The GR-D camcorders feature a 2.5" Clear LCD Monitor which provides bright and vivid images with reduced surface reflection and glare when shooting outdoors, so users enjoy shooting under the sun without the washed out image common with conventional LCDs. It's also possible to view through the viewfinder and LCD monitor simultaneously, especially convenient in situations where you want to share the view with other people.

Also included is wide range Programme Auto Exposure (AE), as well as digital effects and transitions that make it easy to give your videos a professional-looking finish. Effects include Black & White, Sepia, Classic Film, Strobe, Cinema, Twilight, Sports, Snow and Spotlight many of which can be applied to the footage during playback. Scene transitions include White Fader, Black Fader, Black & White Fader, Shutter Wipe, Slide Wipe, Door Wipe, Corner Wipe, Window Wipe, and Scroll Wipe.

excellent cam
Very pleased so far with this camera. The zoom is astonishing, 25 optical and then on to about 50x usable digital zoom, after that it's blocky as they all are.
Easy connection to PC with firewire, but I don't bother and transfer straight to DVD recorder with no problems.
I was a bit concerned at reported motor noise with this model, and it is noticable when playing back from camera to television, but after recording to DVD and then playing motor noise is negligible, not sure why. You can also output sound on Stereo, left mic or right mic, and again left mic output is the quietest, no idea why.
Size is nice, looks great, screen is sharp, menu's are easy and give you lots of manual control. Image stabilisation works very well up to about 20x with me, after that I have to help it by keeping camera steady, but at that zoom size it's very good.
Night shot is a disappointment, infra red may have been better, so I don't bother with it. I filmed a thunderstorm without nightshot with no moonlight and it came out well, even catching cars going past with no blur, so Nightshot is a gimmick unless I'm using it wrong, it also strobes with the slow shutter speed.
Bottom loading tape is no prob unless you want to change tapes when using a tripod, which I don't. Tape mechanism feels solid and everything seems to work well.
Only minor gripe is the plastic cover to the output ports which is flimsy and may break off eventually, but I can live with that.
Battery life is about 1 hour with screen on, 65 minutes with viewfinder, and recharge time is about 90 minutes. I just keep it charged all the time so that's ok.
Overall I'm very pleased with this cam. I did consider buying a Sony, but don't like the touchscreen idea, so happy I got this JVC. Can't comment on reliability cos I've only had it one month, but it feels reliable so far. Recommended camcorder.

Fantastic Budget Camera
Was a bit unsure about ordering this at first as the price was so low! A digital camcorder for just over £200! Bargin.. got the camera the other day, it brilliant, very small and lightweight, packed with features!

Digital mini DV tapes are great too, shame JVC don't pack one in for you to get started! anyway and looking forward to burning movies onto a dvd, via a firewire cable (also jvc do not supply!) not to worry they are very cheap on amazon! don't forget to buy a 4 pin - 4pin firewire cable cos I brought the wrong one.... oppps...

I would say these little buets are on the same level as the sony handy cams!

For a camcorder on a budget this is it! Buy it now, you will not regret it...

a little gem of a camcorder
I purchased this item from an asda store while passing by their
photo shop facility.As I work for asda aces cleaning department I notice a lot of products in store.What made me notice this camcorder was because it was presented in a kit which included three mini dv tapes and various leads completed with a roomy holdall.I have only just started to use it but the results that I am having are good considering the price,as I am a member of a local camcorder group(Bolton Movie Makers)I will be using this camcorder too take some film.The picture quality is superb as is the stereo sound and the wipe facilities are what you would find on a much dearer model.I was quite suprised to find it had a colour viewfinder as well,J V C you have struck gold with this camcorder
