Product Description

Destined to be the most talked about debut novel of 2007 First it was the Cosmopolitans. Then Manolos and the Birkin bag. Now the Manhattan working mums bring you the new must -have accessory; the Manny Jamie Whitfield is a rarity among the sleek and chic of 'The Grid' -- the exclusive blocks of the Upper East Side where it's all about keeping up with the Vanderbilts. She's a working mother, from the wrong side of the tracks and is never quite going to fit in, much to the dismay of her neurotic husband Jeffrey. But while he's worrying that they're the poor white trash of The Grid, struggling along on a mere two mill a year, Jamie is more concerned about juggling the demands of her job with the needs of her children. On the verge of breaking the story that could make her reporting career, and facing mutiny from her son, she hires a Manny -- a male nanny and the new 'must-have' accessory on The Grid. And Jason proves to be a life-saver in more ways than she could ever have imagined!

'Holly Peterson writes about the rich with acute understanding and a drop-dead eye for detail. The funniest, sexiest ride in the limo lane since Bonfire of the Vanities.' Tina Brown 'Money, Manners, Mannys: Holly Petersen's debut is a fabulously sharp skewering of the silly-rich in New York. Coudn't put it down. We should ALL get a Manny.' Plum Sykes

Must-have for holiday reading4
I loved this book because it appealed to the "Desperate Housewives" and "The OC" viewer in me. It is perfect for voyeurs like me who love reading about keeping up with the Jones' or as in New York, keeping up with the Vanderbilts.

Jamie and husband maybe rich but, unlike the other wives, she is a working mum and as such struggles to fit in with the lifestyle of the neighbours and this worries her rather neurotic husband. As life heats up in both Jamie's career and family life, it all seems too much to cope with. However, their life gets much more exciting when this is reversed by Jamie acquiring the must-have accessory of a male nanny and they are the family to be kept up with.

It isn't groundbreaking literature but it is a very good read. Holly Peterson is very incisive and witty which takes the book out of the league of normal chick lit that I find predictable and bland, and into the higher echelons of must-have holiday reading books.

Fabulous and fun5
The Manny is one of those seemingly mindless reads that in fact reaches deeper than you realise. The insight into upper class society in Manhattan is unrivalled since Bonfire of the Vanities and it paints some vivid portraits of hateful and likeable frivolous characters. This is a novel of it's time: socialites, wealth, alpha-parenting, the blogosphere. Read it now before the zeitgeist moves on.

A fabulous read5
Highly entertaining, well written with refreshing twists from all the other Manhattan-centric society books! Anticipating the sequel!
