Customer Reviews

Quite a discovery!5
I highly recommend this book for its wide ranging content and engaging written style. Judy Smith obviously knows and loves France very well and she has that eye for intriguing detail and a good story that is so often lacking in general guidebooks. Legends, literature, art and architecture are all brought to life in this vivid text, as well as a strong sense of the magnetic attraction of some incredibly varied landscapes.
Undiscovered France is a great, entertaining read quite apart from its considerable practical value for anyone hoping to explore and understand the country off the beaten track. There is plenty of practical information in the Fact File section in addition to twenty chapters on locations as wide-ranging as, for example, the Ardennes, Gascony and the wild coast of Finistere. Each section has a map, a narrative tour with suggested routes, good places for walking and other sporting activities, details of places of interest and gastronomic highlights. As someone who lives in France, and near one of the areas featured, I can vouch for the scope and selection of sights and experiences in that region, and the author's mouth-watering accounts of other places made me want to get the maps out and start planning a trip further afield immediately.
