Product Description

In this, the second humour-laced Bob Burns mystery, the droll Scottish detective is once again aided by his game-for-anything forensic scientist lady friend, Julie Bryson, and abetted by keener-than-smart rookie detective, Andy Green. The investigation of a bizarre murder in a small Scottish town rapidly enmeshes the trio in a complicated web of international intrigue and Caledonian skulduggery, as the action shifts to Sicily, New York and a remote Hebridean island, where the line between the good guys and the bad guys becomes increasingly blurred. After many a Highland shenanigan, including a vital kilt-raising stunt by Andy Green, the mystery is finally solved ...or is it?

Well off the wall and very much tongue-in-cheek ... escapist and liberally
laced with humour.

Funny, great characterisations and a nice romantic angle too.

Review
Kerr has a rare talent for producing the most ingenious satire. A thoroughly enjoyable, fast-moving read.

Sporrans up!5
The Amazon blurb for 'Bob Burns Investigates - The Mallorca Connection' forecast that this, the sequel, would be an even more off-the-wall whodunnit. How true!

Kerr's gift for sharp-eyed characterisation and his wry sense of fun are given free rein in a quirky yarn that takes you on a high-speed international trip of mystery and intrigue. It's all very tongue-in-cheek, but it's a really good detective story, nonetheless.

Peter's trick is not to let the humour get in the way of the essential elements of the plot. Instead, it complements the action. And, as usual, there's plenty of that, along with a large cast of the type of colourful and eccentric characters who have been a trademark of all Peter Kerr's books from 'Snowball Oranges' on.

Recommended for anyone who likes a really gripping page-turned that's peppered with laughs. A rare commodity in the all-too-often dark and depressing world of contemporary 'crime' writing.

Another good romp ...5
Bob Burns and his sidekicks, Andy Green and Julie Bryson, feature in another great detective story. This time centred on the Inner Hebridean isle of Muckle Floggitt!

It's a ripping yarn that finds the scottish detective on the trail of New York / Sicilian maffia gangster types. The Italian link allows Peter Kerr to develop characters, dialects, and gags reminiscent of those in his mallorca books.

A great light-hearted feel good read which had me laughing out loud in places.

Gave up early on1
I really did not find this book interesting or enjoyable. The characters came over as two dmensional and implausible. They reminded me of books I read as a child. So a Detective Sergeant reads like Private Pike. The locations are meant to be Scottish, but could have been anywhere. Fictitious names are fine, but don't make them comical because it comes over as Carry On. If you like Christopher Brookmyre, Iain Banks or Ian Rankin then this is not likely to appeal to you.
