Product Description

Pasos is the course for anyone wishing to learn Spanish from scratch. Whether learning for work or pleasure, Pasos gives a thorough grounding in the language enabling learners to speak, read, write and understand a language spoken by over 400 million people. Pasos 1, the first part of the course, introduces the key structures of the language over 14 thematic lessons with the emphasis placed firmly on communication. Authentic reading and listening materials are used extensively for a wide range of lively activities based on everyday situations in Spain and Latin America. From the outset, a realistic range of registers and vocabulary encourage development of the essential skill of comprehension. Clear examples and explanations make the grammar easy to absorb, and emphasis is placed on the acquisition of a wide range of essential vocabulary from an early stage. Balance and variety are prominent features of the Pasos course: a balance of freer activities and graded, accuracy-based tasks; a balance of presentation and practice of new language items; a balance between the study and use of grammar and vocabulary, the cornerstones of language-learning. There are regular opportunities for revision and consolidation, and vocabulary and grammar support are given both at the end of each lesson and in full at the end of the book. The third edition has been revised and updated to take account of developments in modern life, such as new technology and practical communication. Units begin with a Prepárate page of activities and include extra grammar tasks. Rincón Cultural is an additional feature presenting short texts of cultural interest and each unit ends with an Autoevaluación self-assessment checklist enabling students to review what they have learnt. Pasos 1 is ideal for group and individual study and covers the skills and structures required at GCSE level.

Customer Reviews

Would recommend this book5
Bought this book as recommended from my tutor/course. Very good book to support classes, would recommend the CD to accompany book if studying on your own. There is plenty of information, self assessments and activities to get you well on your way to speaking Spanish.

Pasos 1 - 3rd Edition (Book Only)5
I have been learning spanish at college and noticed my tutor had
A pasos 1 spanish book which she had copied excercises from,
for her student's.
I find the book quite helpful in completing different excercises and learning spanish as well.
I would recommend this book, it can be bought on it's own or as a complete package with an activity book and 3 x cd's

CD beware3
I'm four weeks into a Spanish Beginners course with Pasos as the text book. I bought the CD'S as well. It's to soon to comment on the book but a note of caution about the CD's. The CD's are very difficult to follow as the speed of the speakers is normal but there are no pauses in their speech so as a beginner they are very difficult to follow, pauses between each speaker would make it much easier for beginners. What is very frustrating though is there is no cross referencing between the book and the CD's. The numbering of the activities bears no relation to the track numbers so it's impossible to pick the track relating to the activity. I've scrolled through the first 50 tracks and written the number against the activity which makes it MUCH easier to follow. More thought in the production next time?????
