Another Gemmell masterpiece.5
An amazing book, full of gory, full blooded details. The battles scene excell themselves, and complete with it's gripping storyline and plot, I think it makes one of David Gemmell's best. Set one hundred years or so after "Legend", this book describes the life and times of Tenaka Khan, a mixed-blood, descended from both Regnak, the second Earl of Bronze, and Ulric, the Great Uniter of the great Nadir rabbles. A definite one to read if you are into gripping fantasy novels such as Mr. Gemmell's fine works.

An excellent portrayal of athe protagonist from word go....5
Gemmell, aaaah, how refreshing to have a writer that can develop a character and leave you feeling you know them.

Before i diggress, i shall rein myself in and attempt to pay homage to the master of characters, the late, great Gemmell. This book loosely follows on from the original LEGEND (Another must read if you already have not done so!) but is, as i say, only a loose follow on meaning as a singular read this book still works.

Gemmell develops his character so well that, no matter who you are, there is something to empaphise with, whether it be the fear of failiure to the fear of rejection, failed love interests and forgotter yester-years. I loved this book. Its not a masterpiece but is very dam near it with it enveloping continuation of the Drenai saga. I loved it and if you value yourself then please please please read this book! Darkhand!

The blurred line between good and evil5
In a most wonderful epic tale, Gemmell explores how a band of warriors and peace-makers confront their personal demons during an attempt to end the tyranny of a corrupt king. Throughout the story Gemmell explores the notion that power corrupts, from the hearts of a single man, to the desires of a king. The tale is woven differently to previous Drenai works, following a more complex pattern, and is quite able to stand alone as a book in it's own right. The anti-hero theme that is prevalent in previous tales is diluted here, creating a stronger sense of emotion around the central characters, serving Gemmell's main theme of corruption of the human psyche. This fantasy tale is on par with previous, and excellent, Drenai tales; it has twists, epic battles and a strong emotional weave. Highly recommended.
