Smith and Keenan's Company Law is a clear, comprehensive and practical guide to company law ideal for those seeking to understand how company law works in real life context. Authoritative and yet accessible, the new edition has been revised and rewritten to fully incorporate the Companies Act 2006 and provides a suitably detailed guide for undergraduates studying the subject for the first time.

Retaining the straight-forward, easy to understand written style of previous editions, the new author team have incorporated a number of important changes in the fourteenth edition:

o       Increased coverage of the constitution of the company in line with the 2006 Act

o       A new chapter on The Statutory Derivative Action

o       More detailed discussion of Minority Shareholder Protection

o       Greater consideration of company accounts and the auditing process

o       In-depth coverage of Insolvency law

o       Reworked introductory chapters give a clearer overview of the subject to start study

o       Revised and updated essay and test your knowledge questions at the end of each chapter

Presented in a fresh colour design, the many headings guide your progress through the subject while learning features such as case summaries, chapter maps and end of chapter questions aid understanding and allow you to test how much you have learnt as you go along.

Really good value for money5
The trouble with law is that you always have to buy a textbook along with a cases & materials book. Very rarely do you find a book that manages to provide you with both which also has sufficient depth and breadth. However, I honestly believe that Smith & Keenan's Company Law manages to pull it off, and very well. The style is easy to read without being too simple. They manage to link together the various topics of a really complex area of the law very well, and they also make sure that all of the key judgments are included along with an understandable commentary. It is a total contrast to some of the other texts on the market which are pretty dry and only seem to try to make the subject even harder than it already is.

An Excellent All-Round Text on the Subject5
Company law has a reputation for being quite a tough subject and I must admit that I was looking for a book that would make the area as easy and accessible as possible. A friend recommended this text to me over the summer and said that she'd found it to be extremely useful. I have to agree. It's great! Of all the texts that I've had a look at this is one of the most logically set out and accessible book in the area. Each chapter not only has a flow chart to help you put together the various aspects of the topic but also includes excerpts from the relevant case law within the main body of the text. It's easy to read, up-to-date with the Companies Act 2006, covers all of the main case law and also offers some sample questions and answers at the end of each section. I'm glad to say that this book was included on the recommended reading list from the lecturer this year and I can see why. If you're looking for a text that will make Company Law straightforward then this is the one you need to buy.

A surprisingly good book5
In my experience legal texts tend towards extremes, they're either extremely long and detailed, but never actually providing you with the information that you need, or they try to make the subject matter easy and accessible, and end up missing out important pieces of information that you need. This book manages to get the balance just about right in terms of length and style but, most importantly from a student's point of view, they actually make sure that all of the necessary information is included. Okay, it's not perfect but if you are looking for a text that will provide you with a reassuring, easy-to-read analysis of Company Law, together with extracts from all of the main cases in the area, then I would recommend that you have a look at this text.
