Product Description
Yvonne K. Lavelle, creator of "The Kiddisign Baby and Toddler Signing Course in British Sign Language", is an experienced Baby Signer, a Certified Presenter with Sign2Me in America and also holds a British Sign Language Qualification. This book has been tailored to teach a parent, a nursery or carers, how to facilitate simple integration of British Sign Language into a baby or child's day through the use of adapted nursery rhymes. You can start signing with very young babies and toddlers but the most effective age to sign with your baby is from 5 months old. There is no age limit to learning this type of signing and the older a child becomes, the quicker they imitate the sign and make the connection to the word and action. Speech and signs are communicated together so that the child will create a "mind-word-picture" situation in their minds and their speech will be accelerated rather than delayed.

Good value for money
After reading the negative review, I debated whether to buy this book but my friend up north has the book and said she thought it was really good. I knew all the tunes to the nursery rhymes which was helpful and just plodded through the book at my own pace. Sarah (8 months) is picking up the signs and pointing and laughing at the book when we do 5 little ducks. Don't know the answer to that one yet, I think she could be recognising the signs too.
Ah! This is how it's done!
Within the first chapter of this book, my son took to signing like a duck to water. The whole family got involved with this book and because of the way the signs were laid out, I could photocopy them and give them to my mum when she was babysitting, so she could practice too! I would say this is a great book (more like a workbook than a reading book.
Easy to learn
I have used this book with my daughter Millie of 7 months and we loved learning the signs together. I found it extremely easy to use as I know all the nursery rhymes used in the book. The great thing was that the signs are repeated in each chapter so I could mark on the pages when Millie signed the sign and by the last chapter of the book, I could see at a glance we had learned a lot of signs!!
What I would say to people is that this is a workbook rather than a reading book, so if you're looking to research baby signing, then there's a lot on the internet but I also bought another signing book and found it just too much for a busy mum to take in. The Kiddisign book just makes it so simple to learn. I'm glad I just went ahead and bought it as I was a bit put off by the comment but I thought well, I can always send it back if I don't enjoy it.
