Illuminating Your Personal Journey
Jamie Sams teaches in the Senaca Sioux tradition of Native American culture, in whose belief system every thing is seen as living, and each living thing has a specific role as a teacher and storyteller. She is an accomplished author and teacher of the Wolf Clan. This book relates to one of her oracle deck sets called the Sacred Path Cards and to make use of the book you would need to have the card set.
The Sacred Path Workbook is a wonderful companion to the deck. It begins by explaining, clearly, exactly how to use a workbook and why you should do this. Then it briefly describes each of its 6 sections and how they may be used. Those already familiar with Jamie Sams’ work will recognise her teaching style, although in this book she relies less on allegory, spending more time on practical use of the cards. Section 1, the largest part of the book, devotes a chapter to each card; a black-and-white image of the individual card and its attributes and challenges is followed by its individual application, clearly explained. Section 2 introduces some new spreads and section 3 is devoted to calling on the knowledge of the ‘Ancestors’ to help us on the ‘Good Red Road’ of physical life.
My only criticism of the book relates to sections 4 and 5, which require the use of one of her other oracle decks, the Medicine Cards, which features animal totems. This rather assumes that the reader possesses both decks. However, that’s a small grumble and if you like the cards as much as I do, you probably DO have both decks; they do support each other very well.
It is a practical work book. Exercise sheets are gradually introduced and the last section contains sheets for you to record your progress and review your work.
I think this is a lovely book; well explained and an excellent companion to the hardback book which accompanies the deck. Highly recommended.
