The singer-songwriter John Gorka specializes in songs of regret, and this set, in which he's accompanied by frequent collaborator Nanci Griffith and a small band, contains some heartachingly beautiful examples. Gorka's version of Townes Van Zandt's "Snow Don't Fall" gets a beautiful setting of acoustic guitar and electric piano, while Gorka's own "The Lockkeeper" is a hard-edged narrative told in a deceptively matter-of-fact style.

Customer Reviews
A Real Talent!
I was the toilets of a big store recently and there was some modern pop/rock music being played over their sound sysytem ( which I object to!); anyway, I was listening to this drivel with its primary school lyrics and no melody, and thinking why don't we ever hear artists like John Gorka in shops - or anywhere! John is a treasure. He sings beautiful and writes wonderful songs. His "Pure" album is a compilation and a good place to start, but anything - and everything - by him is worth hearing.
Still Brilliant
Although I prefer the previous release of 'Old Futures' this is still an excellent album with no bum tracks and the excellent title track which is worth the purchase price alone. I have reviewed this artist before and I am a self confessed biased fan but I am still amazed at why is this guy so obscure? Faultless singing, briliant lyrics and catchy tunes - buy this album and spread the word!
