Impresive
I bought this as a present for a relative, who spent a happy few minutes explaining to me the various features of this case.
1] The neck strap is adjustable.
2] There is a pocket built in to the case, which is apparently useful for compasses and such.
3] You can get two "folds" of a map displayed simultaneously.
4] Alternatively, it can be folded in half to display just one map "fold".
5] It has a weatherproof flap across the top, to stop the rain getting in, something that apparently not all cases have.
This is highly recommended.
Good but not totally waterproof
On the plus side this is an ergonomically well designed product. The map case will take standard OS maps showing two folds to one side of the case and one to the other side of the case, so with careful folding you can cover 10 km before having to refold. The extra pocket is ideal for compass, torch etc and the neck strap isn't one of those cords that will dig into your neck before too long. The water seal is a double fold at the top with a full width piece of velcro to close it which all looks very effective, but unfortunately not that effective. On my last trip I bought one of these having found that I'd arrived with maps but without the map case I usually use so I bought one of these as Berghaus was a name I recognised whereas everything else available wasn't. In practice this was fine for two days but on the third it started to leak, OK admittedly everything else was leaking and driving rain was penetrating even my boots and waterproofs on that day but there are map cases which will handle that.
Overall, good in most conditions but for really foul weather something better might be needed.
Disappointing
Unfortunately, the case wasn't exactly waterproof. I imagine it would stand up to light rain, but water managed to find its way into mine, despite only being slightly splashed. Any suggestions as to a more robust product?
