CD Description
Gaining popularity within the underground hip-hop scene, Dilated Peoples drop their debut major label album, PLATFORM on Capitol Records. Filled with gritty beats and laced with mic skills, PLATFORM is a debut that grabs the listener's attention from the first play.
Songs like "The Platform", "Guaranteed", and "Ear Drums Pop" are pure hip-hop heaven. Joining Dilated on PLATFORM are B Real ("No Retreat"), and Tha Alkoholics ("Right On"). Beats from mad scientists like The Alchemist, Evidence, T-Ray and E-Swift keep the tracks flowin'. Some of the other cuts that shine on this winning debut are "The Main Event", "Annihilation", and "The Last Line of Defence". Make sure you check out the remix to "Ear Drums Pop", which is a hot posse cut that features White E. Ford, Defari, Planet Asia & Phil Tha Agony.

The Underground Blows Up!
On the back of 'Work the Angles', Dilated Peoples were able to gain a record deal with a major label which gave them the exposure that they deserve (and anyone who moans about them not 'keeping it real'or anything should get their head out). And the fruits of their labour...impressive, but... First thing to say is that on first listen this album is good to listen to. The beats are phat, the interplay between Iriscience and Evidence sounds good, Babu chucks in some variety with some astonishing scratching, and Aceyalone, as usual, is jaw-dropping. Yet the more I've listened to the album, the less I've been convinced, and at the same time, the more times gone on, the less I've listened to the album. Its noticable that my favourite tracks are either those where Babu features heavily, 'Work the Angles' and 'Ear Drums Pop', or where the production does something different, 'Annihalation's' bass has to be heard to be believed. Yet in between, something seems to have gone missing, and I'm not sure what it is. Possibly the endless ego raps get a bit repetitive, or the MC's just require something more than an endlessly looped beat, hence where Babu comes in. I still think this is a good album, and I have no regrets about buying it, but personnally I found there are concerns about its longetivity. However, its still strong enough for four stars.
The best from the LA underground
The album starts of with the Alchemist produced banger 'The Platform', and this album shows that The Alchemist is easily one of the best produces on the planet, but the standout track, 'Ear Drums Pop' is produced by Dialated's very Evidence, proving he's not only wicked on the mic, but is a fantastic beatsmith. Ev and Iriscience rhyme some of the best raps of 2000, and Babu (of the Beat Junkies) justs adds that little bit more to take this album that little bit nearer perfection. The album closes with 'Work the Angles', and Iriscience's verse is probably the best on the whole album. But there aren't any lackluster performences from any of the Peoples, and makes 'The Platform' a must Buy
It's got it all...
Dilated Peoples, the east coast trio have pulled out all the stops in their debut album. The two rappers, Evidence and Iriscience combined with the DJ Skills of Babu make an amazing blend of powerful lyriscm with strong beats. Many of the tracks stand out on the album, 'the Platfrom', 'Ear Drums Pop' (which features B-Real from Cypress Hill) and 'Work the Angles' are three of the most original and compelling songs I've ever heard. Aceyalone, one of the most talented MC's out there also features on the album, making a great mixture of Evidences powerful voice and Iriscience's flow, combined with Aceyalone's lyrical prowess. These will get your foot tapping and your head nodding, my only critiscm is the fact they haven't released the second album yet.
