'Every day a witty, sharp gem of social comment... his brilliant work is the yardstick by which the rest are judged' TERRY WOGAN Matt started drawing his much-loved cartoons for the DAILY TELEGRAPH in 1988. His cartoons are on the front page of the DAILY TELEGRAPH and three slots on Sundays, giving his own take on the world we live in. From the often absurd world of politics, to sport, the beleaguered heath service and seemingly endless transport traumas, Matt takes a unique and wonderfully entertaining look at life, giving it a brighter, funnier twist. 'That rare thing: a daily cartoonist who never fails' THE TIMES

About the Author
Matt studied at St Martin's School of Art in London and first saw himself published in the NEW STATESMAN during one of its rare lapses from high seriousness. He has been the DAILY TELEGRAPH's pocket cartoonist since 1988. He has won the CARTOON ART TRUST POCKET CARTOONIST OF THE YEAR AWARD five times and was 'WHAT THE PAPERS SAY' CARTOONIST OF THE YEAR three times. He is also four times winner of the UK PRESS GAZETTE CARTOONIST OF THE YEAR, most recently in 2008, and in 2002 he received an MBE.

New Christmas classic
For years I used to buy the Giles annual as a Christmas present for my brother but probably spent more time reading it myself. It's hard to imagine a cartoonist more different from Giles - Matt's cartoons are tiny, simple and to the point whereas Giles' were immnensely detailed and included a whole family of regular characters - but Matt is already finding his way to my heart as a new Xmas tradition.
This small format paperback is fabtastically good value, especially on a chuckles-per-page basis. I particularly liked a cartoon on the subject of teenage pregnancy, with a schoolboy telling his bemused parents, "We've had a maths test today and there's a paternity test tomorrow."
There also seems to a good few cartoons which I don't remember ever seeing in The Daily Telegraph. Thoroughly recommended.
Compulsory reading
Although this was a present I had to read it cover to cover first. Matt as always at his best.
Best cartoonist
It's a joy to have Matt's cartoons from this year in one volume and to pick up on the ones you've missed.
