In 1922, Madrid is wavering on the edge of change as traditional values are challenged by the dangerous new influences of Jazz, Freud and the avant-garde. Salvador Dali arrives at the university; 18 years old and determined to become a great artist. His bizarre blend of shyness and rampant exhibitionism attracts the attention of two of the university's social elite - Federico Garcia Lorca and Luis Bunel. Salvador is absorbed into their decadent group and for a time Salvador, Luis and Federico become a formidable trio, the most ultra-modern group in Madrid. However as time passes, Salvador feels and increasingly strong pull towards the charismatic Federico - who is himself oblivious of the attentions he is getting from his beautiful writer friends, Margarita. Finally, in the face of his friends' preoccupations - and Federico's growing renown as a poet - Luis sets off for Paris in search of his own artistic success. Federico and Salvador spend the holiday in the sea-side town of Cadaques. Both the idyllic surroundings and the warmth of the Dali family sweep Federico off his feet. Salvador and he draw closer, sharing their deepest beliefs, inspirations and secrets, convinced that they have found a kind of friendship undreamt of by others. It is more that a meeting of the minds; it is a fusion of souls. And then one night, in the phosphorescent water, it becomes something else... DVD Extras include original screen tests, theatrical trailer, additional tracks, director/band commentary and theatrical trailer.

Synopsis
For years, scholars have debated the nature of the relationship between surrealist painter Salvador Dali and poet Federico Garcia Lorca; director Paul Morrison's LITTLE ASHES delves into their personal interaction and their acquaintanceship with Spanish surrealist filmmaker Luis Bunuel, with whom Dali made L'AGE D'OR and UN CHIEN ANDALOU. In 1922 Madrid, bohemian lifestyles are flourishing -- from the arrival of jazz music to the 'en vogue' teachings of Sigmund Freud. As the tale opens, Salvador Dali (Robert Pattinson) is only 18, but his dreams of artistic glory lie poised in front of him; his personality and social attitudes soon draw the attention of two from the in-crowd -- Lorca (Javier Beltran) and Bunuel (Matthew McNulty). For a temporary period, the three become the most 'in' clique in all of Spain and find themselves virtually defining the currents of modernism; however, Bunuel then leaves for Paris, and Salvador and Federico are thrust together even closer than before -- so close that one night, their relations suddenly cross the line from platonic friendship to something far more intimate.

very moving
I went to see this movie two days ago and utterly enjoyed it, it was very moving and the acting is superb.
Robert Pattinson's performance is compelling, his portrayal of Salvador Dali is so good, you don't even realise that it's Rob acting..
Javier's Lorca was so moving that I found myself in tears feeling his pain and anguish..in fact all the actors were excellent.
The music was fantastic and is definatley worth buying for the beautiful score.
Go and see it, not just because it's got hot actors but because it's a wonderful movie.
A WONDERFUL STORY AND MOVIE
Last night, I went to the release of the movie here in Chicago.
I really loved this movie. The love story is so moving, as well as the struggles that go with the relationships of the character. If you haven't seen it, or are struggling with the fact that Rob's character is with a man in the film, get over it! It is not as bad as you expect it to be and it's very surprising. Pattinson fans, get off your butt and go see the film. I guarantee that it is worth it.
Very Moving
I definately recommend this movie, not only to Robert Pattinson fans, but to anyone who has ever truly loved someone. The movie was very moving. The connection between Rob's Dali and Javier's Federico is very intense. You do NOT even realize that it is 2 men, you only realize it is 2 people in love. Rob's Dali is spot on. As another person stated, you completely forget that it is Rob acting, you think you are watching Salvador Dali. Javier also does an excellent performance. My husband enjoyed the movie as well. He even cried, he was so moved. Definately worth watching.
