About the Author
Rod Butler was graded to 4th Dan by Sensei Enoeda and has almost thirty years of experience in the art of Shotokan Karate. He assisted in the production of the Enoeda books and videos and was one of the regular deputy instructors at the famous Marshall Street dojo when Sensei Enoeda or Sensei Ohta were away. He was for some years the chairman of the Marshall Street S.K.C. committee and assisted in the smooth running of the dojo.
He has written for various martial arts magazines including ‘Shotokan Karate Magazine’, ‘Traditional Karate’ and ‘Fighting Arts International’. Rod has also travelled to Japan and trained at the famous JKA Honbu in Tokyo.
In 1985 Rod founded the successful Chingford, Enfield, Larkswood and Wanstead karate clubs in North London, which Sensei Enoeda regularly visited. He also organised the annual ‘Karate Masterclass’, which was held every December, where students from all over the United Kingdom would come to train with Sensei Enoeda and Sensei Ohta.
He continues to run the karate clubs to this day and is now the public relations officer for JKA England, as well as being the chairman of the committee and assistant instructor at Sensei Ohta’s OASIS karate club in London’s West End.
