A first class book from one of the greats.
Kanazawa is widely recognized as one of the truly great Shotokan practioners to emerge since as far back as the 1950s. In this book he produces a clear, comprehensive exposition of basic, and indeed not so basic, kumite. The drills are varied and encourge practioners to develop a full range of attacks, blocks and counters including a wide range of hip evasion techniques. The text is invaluable to instructors and facilitates the laying down of a firm foundation, as well providing the material to allow this foundation to be built upon. Really this is one of the best books on the market from one of the greatest karateka of them all.

A Masterpiece of Perfection
Complimenting Kanazawa Sensei's two kata volumes and in addition to the glowing review above, this book another masterpiece from a legend in the making. Amongst the greatest of Shotokan karate-ka of all time (IMHO)

Written in three languages: Japanese, English and French, the book is packed with high quality black & white pictures of Kanazawa Sensei performing all the varying forms of kumite, with detailed descriptions, from beginner to Black Belt & beyond!

Look out for the two sister Shotokan kata volumes of this book Shotokan Karate International Kata: Volume 1 & Shotokan Karate International Kata: Volume 2.

You will not be disappointed with this masterpiece of a book, it should be in prime position on every Shôtôkan karate-ka's book shelf - or even in their training holdall.

It's quite difficult to obtain a new copy and no doubt will be hard to obtain in the next few years. Kanazawa Sensei is a legend in the making.
