Product Description

There's something just a little bit naughty about cooking with vodka. You tell someone there's vodka in their dinner or dessert and their eyes widen; their lips curl into a smile. An ordinary meal becomes an extraordinary event. Vodka bars have ignited a new culture throughout the UK and US and more and more people are drinking vodka at home. But did you know that vodka does wonderful things to food - in marinades, it tenderises meat, it is great for de-glazing pans and adding flavour, while in cream sauces it lowers the boiling point and so helps to prevent curdling. Inspired by his love for cooking, his years working in Moscow, and the best vodkas in the world (not necessarily in that order), John Rose has assembled over 100 uniquely invigorating recipes, from Chilli con Vodka to Glazed & Confused Chicken, Loaded Doughnuts to Vodka Crepes. There's something for everyone in The Vodka Cookbook. In addition to dinners and desserts, readers will discover how to create Food Flights - soup-like tipples that blur the line between drink and food. They will also learn how to make flavoured vodka infusions to whip up their own dishes and drinks. Of course, the book wouldn't be complete without some cool cocktail concoctions like the Moletov Cocktail and Three Vodka Chocolate Espresso Martini. But The Vodka Cookbook will soon have you moving your vodka out of the liquor cabinet and into the kitchen.

Customer Reviews

Great Book4
This book is fantastic and has been really handy to use for new ideas with dinner parties.

The pictures are also fantastic which is always a bonus.

Definitely worth the money.

Excellent surprise !5
This was bought as a joke for a friend after a battle of spirits over the uses of alcohol in cooking (and medicine, well...) but it turned out to be much more. Inventive and interesting recipes, lovely pictures, my friend was delighted and so were we when he organised a superb vodka dinner in retaliation. Everybody had a close look at the book that evening and a few more copies were bought. We have now also been through several experiments using tequila, whisky or cognac in some of the recipes and the results have been great (May I add that they have been enjoyed by both drinkers and teetotallers, the aim of the game is not to overpower the dish with booze, the dosage is well thought out in each recipe, respecting it or not is your choice of course).
Much more than an advertising front for Smirnoff as I first thought, this book offers a lot of great ideas and tasty recipes, it is very pleasant to flick through and opens the door to much more, should you wish to experiment further. Definitely a good buy !

Great for a student5
Every student must have a bottle of vodka in their room at some point so this is the perfect thing to accompany it. I bought it for a friend's 18th and she really liked it.
It's also pretty good for vegetarians as there is a section for non-meat recipes.
And obviously its good for that inevitable strange night where you feel like being creative!
